Does anyone have any experience moving from an auto V6 to manual GT? I currently have a 2014 V6 auto premium and am picking up a '15 GT PP MT this weekend (done deal). Just wondering how high to set my expectations for the power difference!

(first post!)
You're going to love it man!

The MT-82 is a pretty forgiving trans for a first time driver and you shouldn't have any major issues.

In regards to the power- you will love it! The 5.0 is an unreal motor.

Can't wait to see some pictures of your new beast!

The 2015 GT is a REALLY easy car to drive as far as manuals are concerned. If you're worried about learning how to drive manual, I'd try and find a friend that has an old beater civic that they wouldn't mind you learning the ropes of the car on. Making the switch then should be really easy: it has so much torque and the clutch is so easy to use IMO that it'll be a pretty easy transition.

The acceleration from v6 to GT is giggle-inspiring happiness. Especially with how smooth the 2015s are, you feel like you've engaged some afterburners and are heading to space. That's how I felt with my manual v6 to the GT anyway.

Thanks everyone for the responses! Really great forum and good stories. I do know how to drive a manual, but I've never owned one. I actually learned on my friend's '95 V6 mustang while in high school (2003 or so), and that was so easy to drive. I've driven a bunch of 4 cylinders since, including my friend's dad's Alfa Romeo. That was around Europe (he's Dutch). That was great!

But I've never driven a V8 manual and I'm pretty nervous just to look stupid at the dealership. I'm no manual expert at all. Oh well! I'll take it straight home and practice.

I traded in a 14 V6 M6 and had to get use to the damn clutch release point, first test drive I told my salesman don't say a word as I looked like a 12 year first trying to drive a stick the first 4 times going from first to second.

And get used to the car and especially 2nd gear as my car sits side ways in second gear under hard acceleration. And remember in under 60 degree weather the tire go to not so much grip. The tires need driven on to but heat into them like racing slicks, traction control can't catch the car when cold and cold tires.

I went from a Honda CR-Z hybrid with a CVT trans to my Roush stage 2 with a manual. Very slight power difference noted......Seriously though, these new manuals are very easy to drive, much easier clutch than in my past Fox body or SN95 Mustangs.

You might want to wear Depend underwear the first few days. :D

Seriously though, this is my first Mustang and I've never driven a V6 or EcoBoost version, so I don't how much of a power difference you should expect.

But I do know I'm more than happy with the power of my GT PP. Rowing thru those short gears is just plain ole fun.

Enjoy your new ride.

I just know I'm not going to let my idiot brother drive it! He'll put that thing on the side of the road before I know it. That's what makes me feel like I need Depends!

Yeah. Sounds like you better keep him out of it. These beasts can get away from you if you're not careful. I've scared myself a time or two playing around with it. Thank goodness for traction control; which is at least partially on even in S mode, which is the mode I have her in 90% of the time.

Picking her up this weekend, huh? Man I remember how excited I was back in November when the dealership called and said the car had arrived and I could come pick her up.

Congrats and post some pics when you get a chance.

Very high, this thing is super fast! The manual is not bad at all, have only stalled once and that was my fault totally. My last manual was sold in 1996, so has been a while and no issues even in heavy traffic. Enjoy!

Sweet upgrade. I recommend you do the clutch spring removal for an even better manual trans feel.

As far as learning to drive this manual, let the clutch help you. In first gear from a stop, the engine will automatically increase throttle as it senses load via the clutch. As a result, you can get moving without touching the gas, just modulating the clutch. After that, it's just the basics. This really is an easy car to drive, particularly after removing the clutch assist spring.

This GT is a rocketship. I let out an uncontrolled giggle when I did the first WOT pull in 2nd gear. It never gets old (too me) and the transition goes from being a little bit scared of the power at first to relishing it and being in full control. Took a couple weeks.
