It's crazy, most people claim the whipple tune is the best in the business. But some claim they blow up motors. ???
Who's most people. I've never heard anyone make that claim ever. In fact, it's generally known that the whipple tune is for people who live in communist states that face emissions testing. Virtually everyone else willing to drop that sort of coin prefers a more optimal tune(r) from an outside source.

Whenever you see a new whipple dyno video on youtube, the first question used to be "is that the whipple/tomahawk or is that a custom tune" but the disparity is so bad now you can almost predict it with high accuracy (basically if the car makes 100 hp less than others of a comparable setup, it's probably on the whipple tune). This is no knock against whipple, they're making a tune that's not "offroad" and legal for all sorts of bureacrats and laws.

But I've NEVER EVER heard anyone say "the whipple tune is the best in the business."

My Whipple tune was spot on. After I installed it I took the car to a reputable shop that tunes and installs Whipple superchargers. My Whipple tune was the 50 state 91 octane tune. Running it on the dyno it made 625 RWHP SAE at 7,000 and the increase in HP was strong indicating by the shop owner that it would show 675 at 7,800. That's a 91 Octane tune. Ran perfect. He has been in business 30 years and told me the tune was excellent in all aspects. That is with the stage 1, gen 5 complete kit. Not a custom tune. No headers. No boost-a-pump. No smaller pulley. I was running 93 octane, but the tune was not a wrung out max HP 93 tune.

Also, that is SAE, not STD.

When looking at my Whipple logs, I don’t see a ton of room for improvement in power. The cam timing, spark timing, and a/f ratio are all in typical ranges. I do see where cat overtemp protect adds more fuel than you’d want for max power, which probably leaves a few ponies on the table. I don’t see 100 hp there. This is stage 2 fwiw, so maybe they’re holding something back in stage 1. I’m not saying the aftermarket cals aren’t faster at the track but they probably get it through reductions in torque management on the launch and shifts.

Look at the dyno run from PBD on a stage 1 Whipple, 2018 GT. Not as good as my canned Whipple tune. Plus theirs is STD, not SAE which is another 10-15 HP at the wheels. Look at the video before they put the stage 2 kit on. Go to 1:17
I am of the belief that many folks think that a "custom" tune is always better. No, it is not. Sometimes, yes. But always: no way. Whipple, procharger, Roush, Edelbrock know their blowers better than anyone. They have one tune needed to be spot on: their own.

I have had a PBD tune on one of my cars and it was very good. No knocking them. And, they really take time to read the datalogs and tweak it, for sure.

100 RWHP. Not a chance.

Just go to Brenspeed's youtube channel. You can pick out which cars are on the can whipple tune and which are custom tune, just by the numbers.

Smart getting a custom tune. If I don't sell mine I will going straight to a tuner as soon as my warranty is over

You show me ANY whipple'd GT350 that makes 820 rwhp on pump 93 with the whipple tune. I'll wait.

Whipple stage 1 on 93 is 720-730 rwhp all day long SAE smoothing 5 on pump 93.

The first real advantage of an aftermarket tuner is their ability/willingness to up the rev limiter. That alone is going to yield considerable increase in the peak hp. Then there's decent gains all along the curve.

I'm sorry, but the whipple tune is there to be safe and solid and 50 state legal. It's not a slight against them to say that tuners less constrained are going to be able to squeeze considerably more out of a whipple'd car.

You misunderstood. I'm not talking about custom tunes. I may have stated it incorrectly. Out of all of the supercharger companies, the OEM whipple tune is regarded as the best. You hear it almost daily. At least I do. I've never heard anyone say their Edelbrock tune was great. Same for Procharger, Vortech, etc... Roush is good too, but far more conservative. Once again, only talking about tunes that ship with the supercharger from the manufacturer. Not a beefcake special or Lethal package.

And OEM tunes aren't just for CA people. Believe me, I've owned 7-8 TC / SC / and a few NA vehicles. Custom tunes are great for Dyno numbers and track numbers, but they aren't always the best for the street. As people that have chimed in here will tell you. I'd rather keep a few HP in the bank if my car is going to drive better on the street. 90 % of the time where I operate it.

You are correct, I did misunderstand. Apologies

I'm Disappointed too. It's been about 11 weeks since I ordered my Whipple and not once has anyone proactively contacted me to let me know of delays. Whipple blamed Beefcake, Beefcake blamed Whipple who said Whipple told him, they had a bad batch of Castings from China. Whipple went so far as to try to tell me kits are only taking 7-8 weeks for delivery. These people take your money and don't give two shits about you afterward.

I'm hoping to get a tracking number this week but I'm not holding my breath. At this point Whipple was the worst choice I could have made.

*Blah blah blah Pandemic.. Don't take the orders if you can't fulfill them or pick up the phone.
Well that sucks. I'm one week in. I was told the same thing, about 7-8 weeks for delivery. I feel your pain. It will all be worth it in the end though.

At week 8 I simply got a refund. Just that simple. I could care less I’ll reorder or get a Roush.
