lol why not? seems like people are smacking their heads around about something so minor, I swear some are bi-polar!

I think it's just indicative of society in general. No matter what is offered, there will always be something to complain about. Some people could be handed a $100 bill and complain that it's too wrinkled. :lol:

But hey, without all the griping forums like this wouldn't be near as entertaining, now would they? ;)

I kid of course. We all have our differences, and that's okay as long as they are debated respectfully.

True... Its funny to watch some swear they are absolutely right and when a debate arises.. they go running to mommy and daddy (Ford) for official info and even when that is presented there still a debate... Lol It's like the facts just fish slapped ya in the face..

I think DRLs might be required by law these days. I live in a mountainous, forested area, and running with headlights on all the time is pretty much required in order to be seen in all the shadows. What bugs me about DRLs is that they only apply to the front lights. I would actually like them to apply to the rears as well. For this reason I end up ignoring the DRLs anyway and just turning on the headlights all the time. My 350z is 10 years old with 180000 miles, and the lights haven't burned out yet. I don't think that is going to be an issue.

Not required in the US but it is law in Canada. Off topic, if you haven't changed headlight bulbs in your Z, I would highly recommend it. They are putting out less light than halogen at this point.

My only dislike with DRLs is when they are applied to either the headlight bulbs(high or low beam) or the parking lights. As someone who does HID projector retrofits and LED lighting, it's a pain to have to disable the system. Not to mention the shorter life span of the bulbs in this instance. The separate LED DRLs I really don't have a problem with.

I really dislike a lot of the features on cars that are making drivers lazier. Automatic headlights, automatic wipers, collision avoidance, lane keeping assist, etc. Might as well just build the self driving cars already because the public doesn't seem to want to drive on their own anymore.

I mentioned pulling up to a house with lights off because I've had to do it. not out of trying to be sneaky, but out of courtesy. A buddy of mine was living out of a trailer on this guys land and pulling down the driveway with the lights on, they would shine right into the house. So, it's not always devilry being the reason behind wanting your lights off

I got a little carried away talking about other vehicle's DRL's lol the mustang's shouldn't be bad in this case.

I was originally responding to Stangnuts comment. Which i took as implying "people who want auto or drl's are too stupid to turn the light switch on". Which is a pretty silly statement to make.

Yeah, it is kinda rude ... DRL, well I can't even call them DRL... more like signature lamps. Quite a few are just that. Then, there are a few that are both signature and DRL... Audi's... those are bright as hell and can see them way off in the distance and still tell it's an Audi.. Pretty much explains why those lamps turn off when the blinkers are on.

Entering bases, I understand the headlights out concept so the guards are not blinded by the light... For those intances I only use my fog lamps which I use all the time in the dark or funky/cloudy weather. Sometimes I even wonder if my lights are even on though mostly on a bright, clear night. I hate standard lights and have a preference for LED/HID but I HATE those extremely bright and the blueish lamps that every one seems to be swapping out OEM with

I'm all for auto headlights. I have had too many close calls in Florida rainstorms from people who are too lazy to turn on their headlights when it's pouring out. It's not cause I'm lazy but because to many of the other drivers are

This is really the crux of the argument for DRL's. Mostly because people are too friggen lazy to turn their lights on in any situation that hinders visibility. Not a problem in some cars (bright yellow for instance) but is a huge issue in cars that are grey.

But, the thing to keep in mind is that DRL's are extremely effective at getting other driver's attentions in ALL weather conditions. How many times have you been driving down the road and noticed the cars without lights on in clear conditions? Not very often unless it is an interesting car right? How many more cars with DRL's on did you notice? I think it was the NHTSA said that DRL's reduce a driver's likelihood of getting into a daytime accident by 33% or something like that as other drivers are less likely to miss your car due to the bright lights.

Unfortunately the average public sees cars as a means of transportation and a hassle at that. Because of that people pay less and less attention to the road and more attention on whatever BS it is they feel is more important than navigating their 3000+lb missile. I hate nannies, but nannies like DRL's are not intrusive and I don't mind nearly as much as I mind nannies like traction control, TPMS, etc. I will say I DO love ABS though but more because it saves tires!

Looks like "fionic" and I are on opposite sides of this issue too! While he stated he would`nt allow (an Animal), a Dog, "Man Best Friend", in his Car in a Million Years, I would`nt own a Vehicle without DRL`s in a million years. Ford, just like it`s refusal to make Sirius/XM easily available on its Base Level Cars has refused to go along with every other Vehicle Manufacturer selling Cars in America by not making Daytime Running Lights as standard equipment. Other then Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, and Nissan, every other Car maker has now included this safety devise. Want a separate disengage switch, fine, no issue with me on that. Ford only allows DRL`s to be ordered in the USA if they are Fleet ordered Vehicles requiring a valid FIN#. Over the past 10 years, (all) Ford Vehicles have the DRL function available. Canada, where DRL`s have been required by law for decades have had Ford enable the DRL function at point of manufacture. For US residents, they have to arm twist their Dealerships Service Department to get out their IDS Programmer, hook it up to the Vehicles Smart Junction Box, click on the Option, Exterior Lighting/DRL`s Enable and 30 seconds later, "Viola" DRL`s are working and Let There Be Light! I know, I`ve had 2011 Ford Fiesta SE Hatchback and my 2013 Ford C-Max SE Hybrid DRL`s activated!

You've lost me, Phil... The LED "gills" (turn signals) ARE DRL's and appear to be standard equipment on every single model. They are set up to operate in that function right out of the box. My 2013 has similar LED DRL's and they've worked since day one, regardless of what setting my headlights are set to.

DRL has been standard fir the last several years... Some fords have Sirius in the cars, just that they don't have a complimentary subscription like the premium models. Ford focus did have DRLs at one point in the past around 2000 to 2003... somewhere around there... lights would come on with the ebrake disengaged.. back then it was fad then dwindled and now they are back

Yes, in the 2013 & 2014 Mustang as well as in the 2013 & 2014 Ford Escape in Titanium Trim (only). No other Ford Vehicles purchased for Retail sale (non Fleet) in the USA have DRL`s, period.

How do you explain signature lamps then? They are no different from daytime running lamps on some current models... Most with the HID lamps or upgraded trim... either way it's irrelevant... if you insist on using lights then simply turn them on as I do... no probs

My '13 Focus SE was ordered as a fleet vehicle. I'll have to see if it has DRLs when I get home tonight (driving the Shelby today).
