Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) on the S550

I'd be interested to know if using the E-brake does deactivate the DRL's on Mustang. Just so I'd know, I checked and it definitely doesn't work on my 14 Escape. The 4.2" dash screen just goes into a panic to let me know my vehicle isn't in PARK... because it apparently has a weight sensor in the driver seat as it has the passenger seat and knows I wasn't in the car.

The DRLs DO turn off with the e-brake. Just tested to verify. I was driving the Focus today so I couldn't do it earlier.

How do you explain signature lamps then? They are no different from daytime running lamps on some current models... Most with the HID lamps or upgraded trim... either way it's irrelevant... if you insist on using lights then simply turn then on as I do... no probs

Call them whatever you wish. Daytime Running Lamps, Signature Lamps, LED Accent Lights, if they go on and stay on automatically when the engine is running, they are considered DRL`s. Not (all) Ford ordered Fleet Vehicles have DRL`s, only those that were ordered with that option. Dealer Stock (Inventory) or Retail Special Ordered Vehicles (cannot) be ordered with Daytime Running Lights (without) a Fleet Identification Number or FIN#. Only the 2013 & 2014 Ford Mustang and Ford Escape "Titanium Trim Only) came with standard Signature Lamps or LED DRL`s here in the USA. In Canada, all Vehicles sold there in the past several decades had DRL`s as required by Law there.

Looks like "fionic" and I are on opposite sides of this issue too! While he stated he would`nt allow (an Animal), a Dog, "Man Best Friend", in his Car in a Million Years, I would`nt own a Vehicle without DRL`s in a million years. Ford, just like it`s refusal to make Sirius/XM easily available on its Base Level Cars has refused to go along with every other Vehicle Manufacturer selling Cars in America by not making Daytime Running Lights as standard equipment. Other then Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, and Nissan, every other Car maker has now included this safety devise. Want a separate disengage switch, fine, no issue with me on that. Ford only allows DRL`s to be ordered in the USA if they are Fleet ordered Vehicles requiring a valid FIN#. Over the past 10 years, (all) Ford Vehicles have the DRL function available. Canada, where DRL`s have been required by law for decades have had Ford enable the DRL function at point of manufacture. For US residents, they have to arm twist their Dealerships Service Department to get out their IDS Programmer, hook it up to the Vehicles Smart Junction Box, click on the Option, Exterior Lighting/DRL`s Enable and 30 seconds later, "Viola" DRL`s are working and Let There Be Light! I know, I`ve had 2011 Ford Fiesta SE Hatchback and my 2013 Ford C-Max SE Hybrid DRL`s activated!

Wrong! With DRL`s, the headlamps are on all the time at reduced output (without) the need to keep your rear lights on during the daytime. If you wanted to duplicate the similar safety feature, you would need to keep both headlamps and tail lamps on during the daytime when there is no need to.

I understand the concept of both... honestly I don't care...lol.... I like signature lamps whether they are very bright or just a light... I don't have them on my current vehicles and if I did drive with lights on, it does not make that much a difference... ive only changed one fog lamp out in the 100k + miles I have on my truck or and none in my car. I know I have seen daytime running lamps on the focus... either it used to be a rental fleet or not... I dont know, but I have seen them on the focus... if there is no requirement for that option then why have it? If it is coming up in newer regs then great, put them on if not, does it really matter?

Should work the same way for all Fords?

Note: If your headlights are on, either by explicitly turning them on or by setting them to auto in a dark environment, the e-brake will not turn off the DRLs. The headlights being on override the e-brake.

So if you turn your headlights off at night and set the e-brake the DRLs should be off as well.

I think this is the best "we've run out of things to complain about" thread on the entire site.

On my current car, they daytime running lights can be defeated by going to your dealership and asking. They turn them off via software.

Didn't read the whole thread since I am at work, but read the first few pages. Not really sure where all the hate is coming from. If your sole argument against DRL's is you don't want people to see you, well you probably shouldn't be doing it anyways.

While I am not a proponent of requiring DRL's they can be quite useful. There are, for example, sections of highways here in socal that are long and flat through the desert, yet require headlights during the daytime. It sounds counter-intuitive, but they actually do help see oncoming traffic during the day. It seems to me people are just complaining simply to complain about something.

To sum this whole thread up into three words:

First world problems.

Yea there is that to, imo it's worse than anything an ice can put out. But I'm sure there will be a nice safe way to dispose of or recycle the old batteries.

As far as I know the only "solution" is to put the batteries in a concrete lined land fill and hope the acid doesn't leak through the batteries and concrete barrier. There isn't really a way to recycle batteries effectively yet.

Regardless of what Consumer Reports has to say or J D Powers for that matter, speaker only for myself, I`ve owned my 2013 Ford C-Max SE Hybrid for almost 12 months and driven it just over 7000 miles and to date, have had (zero) problems or issues. Plenty of power, excellent handling and between 37 and 39 mpg city and highway driving. No, its not getting anywhere the 43 or 47 mpg that was first promised but considering constant heavy traffic and stop & go driving and doing 75 mph on the Interstate, not too shabby for a Vehicle of its size and comfort.
