Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) on the S550

The point is, many cars have the ability to turn off the DRLs when stationary, which is what most of the complaints seem to be around. Let's wait to see if the '15 MY has this as well.

I'm curious though, does the '14 MY have DRLs?

Yeah, but I personally think that they're a bit half-assed up front. The rears are hot.

If y'all don't like DRL then there is a simple solution..... the last time I checked there is a fuse you can pull in your fuse panel. Most DRL that I have ever seen run on an isolated system but that was on older cars... like 2001 - 2006. I am sure many things have gotten a bit more complicated with the Newer drl tied into the directional blinker system...... just a thought

That is an ideal overall solution for those who just want them off, period.

That's honest! It's also true to a degree... these things should be known prior to driving.

Having your lights on at all times, even in the day time, is far safer than not having them on. So maybe thought's like this are stupid because ideally you should always have your lights on

LOL! Sometimes having the lights on really doesn't help a thing. If you're in with plenty of odd lighting(through a forest) or driving as the sun comes up, goes down or is down... lights make sense. If you're headed east on I 10 at 10am on a sunny day... headlights are useless.

But I agree it would be nice if you can turn off your lights, lets say approaching someones house late at night and you don't want to wake them up because you're coming home late.

This is all I think anyone's asking for, a way to shut them off as needed.

Maybe he doesn't want to have to flip the switch on, however easy that might be. It only makes sense to have a switch position for them come on automatically. Now that's only in the case of DRL's being your headlights as well. However like i said there should be an off switch.

PS souprmage... that's a good question.. I was thinking that since all 13-14's get HID, they include DRL, but Idonno. My Escape got DRL automatically with the HID's, but they're not standard on Escape as I remember.

I'd be interested to know if using the E-brake does deactivate the DRL's on Mustang. Just so I'd know, I checked and it definitely doesn't work on my 14 Escape. The 4.2" dash screen just goes into a panic to let me know my vehicle isn't in PARK... because it apparently has a weight sensor in the driver seat as it has the passenger seat and knows I wasn't in the car.

I think what we have here is a failure to communicate! Some people are throwing in a spin about pulling up to a house at night with the drl running... actually really should not matter as the running lamps are not that bright, they are not headlamps or highbeams... just a safety light

The DRLs DO turn off with the e-brake. Just tested to verify. I was driving the Focus today so I couldn't do it earlier.

Well, that's good news, hopefully they don't remove that feature.

Then it's just those that don't like DRLs while driving that'll have an issue. Although likely there'll be a fuse they can pull if they so desire. Although personally I could see it being mandatory at some point soon as well.

Having them on makes you more visible. Didn't realize this was such a hard concept to grab lol. And if you can't be seen by another driver because they are being blinded by the sun then of course they're not gonna help. It doesn't matter what you do, they can't see you, I don't really know why you mentioned that, as it it's a bit obvious and ridiculous to mention.

Drls being separate from the headlights will be nice though so you don't unnecessarily burn out your headlights.

Knowing and doing are two different things. Pretty much all drivers know they should follow the speed limit, come to a complete stop at intersections, use a signal when changing lanes, etc., etc. Yet lots of people simply choose not to, or in some cases simply forget. Obviously it's been determined that not enough people are using their lights when they should or else DRLs would not be such a widespread thing...

I agree with the idea that they should be off when the car is parked. And it sounds like them turning off when the parking brake is engaged is a definitely possibility, and IMO would be a reasonable compromise for most.

AND I am referring to some guy mentioning when he pulls up to a house wanting to turn the lamps off (depending on what the hell he is driving) in the DARK. I would care less about dusk or dawn That would be the obvious...lol I am completely FOR DRL Not being dumb or having a hard time to grasp it I like them.. thats it!!

Seems like people are wanting to sneak around in the dark ... Maybe picking up people sneaking out of parents house... Who knows

I mentioned pulling up to a house with lights off because I've had to do it. not out of trying to be sneaky, but out of courtesy. A buddy of mine was living out of a trailer on this guys land and pulling down the driveway with the lights on, they would shine right into the house. So, it's not always devilry being the reason behind wanting your lights off

I got a little carried away talking about other vehicle's DRL's lol the mustang's shouldn't be bad in this case.

I was originally responding to Stangnuts comment. Which i took as implying "people who want auto or drl's are too stupid to turn the light switch on". Which is a pretty silly statement to make.
