I just picked up a used 2016 Ecoboost Premium convertible. The tri daytime running lamps weren’t coming on unless I used them as parking lights. Dealer said my car didn’t have them. Can this be correct? Can they be added?

Huh? Do you have your lights set to automatic or something else?

EVERY model in the United States has tri-bars for running lights

I have them set to automatic. Strange part is when I went into settings to see if they were actually shut off, there was no option for them. That’s when the dealer told me they weren’t on the car.

the dealer is BSing you.

Go back there and have that fixed!

Sometimes dealers are so stupid. I went to one a couple weeks ago and he told me the 2018 mustang GT has 420 HP.....

I believe the dealer can disable them via programming BCM or ECM, depending on where it is. Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. If it isn't working, it may have been turned off by someone.

If I recall, Ford may have had two types, configurable and non-configuable. I think non-configurable are for countries like Canada where you have to have DRL, so you can't turn them off, and usually in the US, you get the configurable kind where there should be a setting in your info menu's to turn them off and on. If you live near Canada, you may have gotten a model made for Canada or some stock that got moved from Canada to the US, not sure if this happens, but could see that happening on states bordering Canada. If it isn't configurable, you should be able to get the dealer to disable it via program change. Also, these may be on their own fuse, could pull the fuse if that is the case.

Why would you want them on?

I'd love to shut off the DRLs. Totally stupid.

Service writer pulled a spec sheet on my car and said it wasn’t equipped. Showed it to me and it said “less” daytime running lights.

Ya kinda like seatbelts, airbags, disk brakes, fuel injection, soft inside materials, collapsible steering columns, vast improvements in MPG, automatic fuel cutoffs and a whole host of other features designed to save lives or improve efficiency. But hey its all about government ruining your life... :headbonk:

My favorite nanny is “the vehicle is on”. I wondered what that rumbling noise was! You know they had to put that on cars because some dumb ass probably killed his whole family by letting his car run in a closed attached garage.

That's the way Ford set up the F-150's for the US.

Gossomer, your service writer seems to be a bit lazy. Push him to get a tech to check on the set up. The running lights should come on when your car is running, and placed into "D".

Also, for those that don't believe in the DRL's I'm not going to ask you why. So, it's up to the individual if they want them, or not. If the OP wants, it shouldn't matter to anyone else.

Exactly. There are several studies on DRLs and how they save lives by avoiding accidents.
