I have read about the damage to the barrel of our wheels caused by stones caught between the caliper and wheel. I washed my wheels and then drove up and down my road to heat up the calipers to dry them, and instead of the rust dust that I am accustomed to having, I damaged my wheel. Jeez. It is surprising how deep the gouge is.

As a side note, I bought Eagle 1 "All Wheel and Tiire" cleaner having only used Grito's and found it did a better job of loosenning the brake dust.

Bummer. Did you only notice it after you got back and looked, or could you hear it scratching as you drove?

I feel your pain. My R wheels - and the red brembo for that matter - are getting nicks all over them. I don’t know if there’s much to do to prevent that. Unless you don’t drive the car :(

I heard nothing. Only noticed it when I went to do a final touch up on the wheels.

You can wrap the wheels in Xpel or some 3M clear bra like product. It works very well. High end cars get this done to protect their expensive rims.

This won't help with pebbles getting between the caliper/wheel, but it should help with normal wear/tear from rocks on the road.
