I just removed my left front carbon fiber wheel and cleaned it very well to get a good ceramic coating on it today; I discovered some hairline powder coating cracks in the inter-webs and one small damaged area on the lip on the inside . I’m hoping that if anyone knows if These areas are just something I should keep my ion or get repaired thanks gentlemen

it looks to me like you hit a hot a pothole or curb or something. IMHO it needs to be repaired or replaced.

How but some better photos and maybe I could give you better advice.

I have a CF wheel repair thread that may be of benefit to you.

Either way, you may want to look into getting street wheels for your everyday driving. Replacement is around +/- $5,000 per wheel.

Also the wheels are painted not powder coated.
Yes, just black paint. A crack like that in the hub is of concern. The wheel can probably be fixed, but that crack in/near the hub is not common. I'd sent it off to be evaluated.

Edited to add:
It would be great if the OP had the road hazard warranty from Ford. That would get him a new wheel for sure. 2015-2017 MY had that package available. I have it for one of my 17 Rs, but they wouldn't sell me the road hazard warranty for my '18 base R.

I found your thread about spyder composites in California ; is your pelican box for sale ? Or if we split the cost we can send it back-and-forth to each other! Lol

If you’re gonna be street driving those CFs, you might want to invest in your own Pelican. In for a penny....:cwl:

BTW, thanks for posting the pics of your garage in the other thread.

Good luck with the repair.

I like to disassemble things.
Do any of your other wheels have cracks like these or just the one?

There are a few pelican 1620s on ebay right now. They may go for cheap. Either go that route or pack the wheel extremely well and insure it for full value.

This case ends in 4 hours and nobody has bid on it. Ebay item 153937786210. You will need foam.

I am confident the lip is repairable, but Frank would probably have to x-ray the hub area to find out whats up with that crack. May i ask what did you hit?

As to what I hit I’m sure that that’s the good learn for all of us; I Purchased the car site unseen from an executive in Alabama and he did an outside video of all the wheels obviously the camera could not pick up those hairlines on the outside and he was not a car guy / work on the Car type of person and I’m sure he did not pull the wheels to look on the inside and I did not either ask him to. ; My few miles I have put on it or only on the streets that I have pre-driven and look for any potholes or problems so every mile I put on it which is less than 100 have been on on the smooth roads; I would’ve known if I would’ve had hit a bump or a pothole. I’m going to stick with my carbon fiber wheels for now and be careful after this one is repaired as I want the pleasure of what these add to the car.

I'll be home in a bit and verify the model

Edited to add: I believe its a pelican 1640. I just searched one of my old threads pertaining to the issue

I found my old GT350R carbon fiber wheel repair thread and I did show that the case was a 1640. (<-click)

Sorry for any confusion.

Where you live, hell yeah. I'm originally from NH and the roads are shit. Here where I live in Texas, the roads are nice and not covered in potholes so I too use mine on the street. Half the reason I bought an R.
