Just got a new car and was looking at the cylinder head temp and it gets to 220 or higher pretty quick and I was just wondering about that this is my first car I’ve bought myself a lot blood sweat and tears to get it and I just wanna make sure it’s all good

Seems to be for these newer cars. My wife’s Wrangler also runs around 220* along with the mustang. I’m used to normal being 190* and having to pull over if temps got to 220.

It’s cylinder head temp, not water temp. Related, but not the same. 220 cylinder head temp is likely 190-200 coolant temp.

It's a 7 to 10 degree spread from what I understand, so 220 is more like 212 coolant temp which is still fine.

As to OP, they run these warm for efficiency. The grille shutters are the biggest offender because they don't fully open until like 223cht. Low speed fan comes on at 217 and you'll usually bounce around in that range.

I'd only worry if you're above 230 on a regular basis.

OEM fan settings have been shared on here by others using HP Tuners software. Low speed kicks on at 212° CHT. High speed fan waits until 223. I would see max of 220-224 CHT just driving around spiritedly on warm/hot days. I wanted cooler temps so I reduced my coolant from mix 50/50 to 65/35 water/antifreeze and added a bottle of Rislone Hypercool. My tune has the fans come on sooner and now I never exceed 207-208 CHT on the street. Haven't had it on track yet, just autocross. It's a base GT with the small radiator and OEM 180° thermostat. Will upgrade to a larger radiator for track use. Probably yank the grill shutters as well.

To me it sounds a bit high. I have never seen mine above 208 °F, never, not even in bumper to bumper traffic on the hottest days. Most of the time it's rock-steady at 203 °F.
I'm sure it's normal to go higher on the track, or if you have a custom tune, but for street driving with stock parts and tune it seems a bit high to me.

Get a 170 tstat and a tune. I hate these hot temps. My car runs about 195 CHT

213 is the highest I’ve seen. But I do have a big intercooler blocking my radiator. Stock Tstat.

Maybe euro cars have a different fan trigger temp, since if you're just sitting there it's gonna hit whatever that threshold is.

I recall in the 80's/90's some GMs (Celebrity, etc. w/2.8L V6) used to get up to 225-227 deg. F before the cooling fan would turn on if you're stopped. If you're on the highway at 55 mph the temp would be 195-198 F since you had enough air flow through the radiator.
