Cup holders and handbrake - RHD

I messaged them earlier expressing complete dissatisfaction. I'd suggest others do as well.

How hard is it for them. Look at the Ranger, Mondeo etc - properly set up for LHD and RHD.

Most cars don't have a handbrake lever these days (e.g. Mondeo) so the hardest part of re-working the centre console goes away. But the Ranger is a good example of one that does, has been properly flipped for RHD/LHD, and gives me a little bit of hope for the production RHD Mustangs.

That 370z interior look pretty nice...except some dickhead put the hand brake in the wrong spot....seriously though...the z car is not that wide inside...you can reach the passenger door from the drivers side without stretching out...a mustang is a big car inside....it looks like a reasonable movment to get over to the handbrake. We have a fg mk2 xr6 turbo manual and the handbrake next to the driver is brilliant...we also have ea s manual with the handbrake in the old falcon style under the dash that is a pain in the butt on hilly streets...reaching over a console for a brake is not what I want to do in a 2015 car.

Are we getting hill-hold feature by any chance? I heard that could be a possibility but not sure. It would minimise a need to use the handbrake.

Yes. Hill start can be toggled on/off on the information display thing. Google the 2015 owners manual - loads of good stuff in there
To be fair, with hill start assist, I'm only going to use the handbrake when parking so as annoying as it is that Ford have been lazy here, I can get used to it...

Funny that the Nissan 370 has the handbrake in the wrong place considering that the Japanese home market is RHD.

You are right about the electric park brake in the mk5, however the mk4 Mondeo had it flipped, as does the mk3 Focus.

The thing is it most likely wouldn't even require any engineering changes to the floorpan as the handbrake cable would almost certainly go straight down the middle of the transmission tunnel - even if not it wouldn't be hard for them to make it work with a bracket or similar and relocate the handbrake lever to the RHS. Manufacturing a different handbrake lever and console would be the most difficult exercise.

Hopefully Ford Australia is wrong, because it would seem a bit odd for Ford US to flip the centre stack controls but not the centre console.

If they don't it won't be an issue for automatic drivers, but for those of us who have ordered a manual it will be a PITA trying to change gear with anything in the cup holders.

Obviously this handbrake issue has disappointed a lot of people but right from the start when RHD prototypes appeared in the states Ford said handbrake would not be flipped.I would guess that the cable/linkage etc is not down centre and would cost time and money to flip.They did say maybe on future models.Also tailshaft sits high in tunnel with exhaust underneath. When the time comes to actually sit in it and drive it,and realize how good it is we might forgive them.

I wonder if Mustang will receive an electronic handbrake in a year or two. If this is the case, Ford may have decided it wasn't worth the investment to tool up for a RHD console for "limited" numbers.

It's certainly disappointing, but the lack of front DRL gills and white tail lamps are still my biggest complaint.

We still get gills with headlights on,and I like that appearance so that is something.The white tail lights really contrast against the black back panel so it highlights the tribar lights.I think they will still look good in daylight with lights on.The red tribar LED's will look great at night,even with only two brake lights(per side). When the yellow indicator overrides outside tribar that also should look good. I am greatfull Ford is bringing this car to OZ at a reasonable price.I really want this car.

Looks like the handbrake cable assembly mounts on the left hand side of the tunnel rather than the middle.

Although it could still work having the lever on the right with a mechanism going across to the left, it makes me think Ford are probably less likely to bother.

It is disappointing that they are not going to"complete" the car by flipping the console. It's not a deal breaker for me, though, I've waited too long now. Actually I am more upset about the tail lights than anything, it's part of the integral design for them to be red. It just looks soon much nicer, and I've always hated when P Platers replace the standard red lights with the clear ones. yuk.

I've had a number of Ford Cars and generally a fan. However, whilst I love the 2015 Mustang itself, I'd finding myself wishing it wasn't made by Ford! Like others on this forum, I'll be getting one of the first 'batch' of RHDs. Hope there aren't too many issues (QC, design flaws etc.) with their first attempt at a RHD Mustang.

The handbrake on the wrong side of such a large tunnel looks absolutely ridiculous.

Maybe someone will make some sort of aftermarket 'cup-holder' delete for the US market?

There is potential that we could tint the tail lights red which as long as it doesn't effect the brightness should be road legal. I don't mind the clear lens look with the DIB.
