I've made it a habit to check the dipstick every 500 miles. So far so good, the level hasn't budged.

what does the GT350 owner's manual say for checking engine oil ? My owners manual says to check every month. That's a little vague, but lets assume that means every 1000 miles. If a car is burning 1 quart every 500 miles, it will get 2 quarts low between checks. And many folks will assume their car can go 3000 miles without dropping a significant amount of oil.

Honestly, that's what I thought. I never imagined that the engine could burn so much oil in a short amount of time.

That seems to be alot.

How low can the oil be before the oil pick up is out of the oil? Before that being low isnt that big a deal.

I wouldn't worry about what the manual says about checking the oil. These are hand assembled motors with known suspicions about oil usage.

I check the dipstick at every fill up (as has been previously mentioned by other posters) and before start up if it's been sitting for over a week. I obsessively check the ground wherever I park. I also check the oil pressure guage regularly when driving- second nature for me now. All part of owning a GT350.

Good luck shelby_r:cheers:

I just talked to the dealership. They have a call into Ford to get a steer on next steps. And, they agreed with me that it isn't an oil leak, but most likely oil consumption.

We'll see what comes next!

My check engine light came on at 1600 miles for bad thermostat.

Grrrr. Not good. Here to hoping this won't evolve into another engine replacement thread:cheers:
Again, good luck!

shelby_r, any loss of power?... limp mode?
Nope - neither. Although, the engine sounded odd upon startup after the check engine light came on. But, once the engine was running, it sounded perfectly fine.

However, I only drove it to the dealership after noticing the light.

Just got an update from the dealership: Ford wants an oil consumption test completed.

So, they are going to change the oil and filter, mark the level, and then have me come back at certain mileage intervals to check the oil level.

...so far, sounds like good news. We'll see what the consumption looks like down the road...that could lead to bad news. Hopefully, not! :)

It's amazing the variance in these engines. Knock on wood, zero oil use here that I can tell of, but it seems to be a common issue.

like my Dad taught me, check oil in the engine and tire pressures at each gas fill up.

Good luck OP,
