So I am planning on ceramic coating my wheels when I get back home. The kit i ordered only comes with the larger applicator pads for the car itself. I am pretty sure a small applicator pad would be best for the wheels as it will be easier to get into the tight spaces. Does it matter what kind of applicator pads I use? My plan was to grab some circular applicator pads , Terry or microfiber, at autozone to use, but I'd like some recommendations from yall. I have no problem ordering some online if I need to.

The Rag Company has smaller pads, I used these to coat my wheels and they worked great for small, tight areas. Get at least one per wheel unless you can coat all four at one time.

Thanks for the recommendation. I should be able to do all 4 at the same time, but I'd prefer to just take my time with it. Probably better off as itll be my first experience coating anything. Ill probably just order a couple packs of them for the harder to get to spots on the car when I do that as well.

Unfortunately they are sold out on that site, but am search turns them up everywhere.

Make sure you get them with a plastic barrier on the inside. TRC calls it “no soak”. This keeps the applicator from absorbing all the coating and keeps it in the microfiber portion that you poured it on.

Armour Detail Supply sells the smaller applicators as well. I bought a handful to have around, I used 2 for wheels. One for each coat. Prep is key. Applying the coating is pretty easy and you can usually coat a full wheel before you need to start leveling and wiping. Just did my summer wheels last Friday afternoon

Awesome, just took a look at ADS. Welp this is bad news....now im not trying to go down a rabbit hole and do the whole , well I could always use some of these and these and maybe I'll try this.

Do I really need leveling towels for the wheels?

I was looking at doing my car at some point so I may pickup some of the panel prep towels to use for the wheels and car itself.

EDIT :: OK. I talked some sense into myself. Mini blocks, circular applicators, and panel prep towels.

Yes you need leveling towels. And while it’s not absolutely necessary to use the panel prep of the same brand as the coating, it’s not a bad idea. All coatings are not made the same and each company develops their panel prep sprays to work with their coatings.

Darnit. Well i ended up ordering a bunch of stuff. Leveling towels i didn't add. Are they necessary for the wheels as well? Or just body?

I ended up purchasing kochemie panel prep as I was already ordering some detail stuff early in the week to have ready for when I grt home.

Any low pile towel will work. You need leveling towels so you don’t get high spots in the coating. The applicator just spreads the product on the surface, the leveling towels makes sure you get even coverage. Then you’ll want a final wipe high pile towel for…you guessed it, the final wipe.

FWIW - I used Adams Ceramic wheel coating kit on my gloss black SVE SP2 and it came with everything I needed to properly apply. They have instructions that are easy to follow for my first time using. The UV light helped me check for coverage and/or high spots to level down with the included plush microfiber. The coating beads great, cleans dust off well and maintained excellent gloss for years, probably 30K miles since I applied and now showing signs of weakness.

I'd highly recommend for a beginner. Now, years later, I've ceramic coated multiple of my own and friends' cars + wheels. Wheels, especially brand new, are super easy to coat. Good luck!

Thats actually what I bought. Well not the advanced. I should've just bought a more expensive kit, as i didn't realize there were some other things i needed. But that's my fault for the 10 minutes of looking at stuff before I bought the kit. I was in a rush to get to the beach so no one to blame but myself.

Well after a little mix up on delivery, ive finally got everything i need yo do the wheels. Going to go get the tires mounted today and probably coat tomorrow.

Is the recommendation of doing 2 to 3 coats correct? If so , do I need to let eat coating cure for a certain amount of time?

I do at least 2 coats. 1 hour between coats. I know the ADS coating I use recommends an hour.

Ok , I'll definitely take a look at what adams recommends. Im pretty pumped as the tire shop i went to (Big E Tire) had newer machines which used a plastic guide for everything. Took a look at all 4 wheels this morning and there was absolutely no damage to any surface. I kinda wanna go back and give their tire tech a tip for the 2 hrs he spent putting the tires on.

Im glad I waited as everyone recommended i do before even cleaning the wheels. So tomorrow panel prep and coating. I do have a question though. I plan to tape the tires themselves off soni don't get any coat on them, but how do I go about getting the corners of the wheels where the face meets the barrels? I can see how it can cost it with the smaller pads I have now, but how do I go about leveling that with the 1st and 2nd wipes?

Edit :: Also as far as the ceramic coat goes wheb applying, do I just forget the sway nozzle and drip right onto the pads? That seems like a more efficient thing to do instead of spraying shit all over.
