With my 2018 on order I'm starting to compile a list of must do first mods, the top of the list is the oil catch can. The dealer I put my order in thru is about 325 miles away from me so I would like to get on installed before the drive home. I'm looking at the Racer X and the UPR, there is a $20 price difference for something that they both claim to do well. Then there is the JLT catch can priced at $139 not a fan of how it doesn't really mount anywhere it just kinda sits there.. but I'll throw it in the poll. Next we come to Driver and Passenger side, seems like the need for a catch can is only on the passenger side but I see that UPR offer a kit for both the driver and passenger sides for $369, is it worth the extra $170?

I've had two JLT catch cans on two different cars and they've never failed to do the job and stay perfectly and securely mounted pegging the accelerometers on autocross and track days to the max.

And you'll be fine if you don't get it installed right away. It's just a catch can and they don't really even start working until you're flogging the engine at higher RPM.

I put a JLT catch can on the passenger side right after taking delivery. Simple to install and fit snug. One of those "set it and forget it" mods...until you have to empty it.

Passenger side is the only one that is needed. I know what you mean about it just hanging out without being mounted to anything but Ive never had it rattle or have any fitment issues. The only thing I dislike about it is that it is kinda hard to get your hand in there the unscrew the reservoir when it needs to be emptied. I feel like they could have molded the lines to be somewhere easier to get to. On the other hand, I like how the lines are as short as possible to not introduce any additional resistance in the system. Not sure how much that matters.

I have the JLT, but that RacerX is sexy as hell!
I know! They also have it in gun metal grey 20% off because of low demand so that brings the price to $143

How often do they need to be emptied?

JLT, love the ease of dumping the oil.

I would check with UPR as to fitment on the driver's side. The '18 engine covers are longer...

They seem to fit fine, here's a install video from Bill at CJ Pony parts. I'm still stuck between UPR and RacerX going to pick one up before I drive the car home. Its about a 300 mile trip to my dealer

Hello all,
I'm new here and don't currently own a Mustang....Yet. It's being built. I've messed around with catch cans On my 2000 Camaro and then on the wifes 2010 Challenger. My tests of putting a Home Depot water seperater inline between the catch can and manifold showed that some blow by was escaping out the catch cans.
The can we're using are for the Dodge Challenger but with mods. This unit has two filtered chambers that are side by side with a partition between them. So as the oil mist enters some is immediately sucked back out and some drops down
After modding the one in the wife's car with success, I put it on my Camaro. No more escaped blow by. I just found where UPR is offering what they call a diffuser for this catch can design, which makes me think their cans have, or had the same design
The can I'm using only cost $95.00 and a few pieces of tin. Altoids cans.
IMHO it would be nice if manufacturers showed more pics of the working internals of their cans.
As of now I'm gonna use the can off the wife's traded in Challenger on the new mustang.

Here's a post I wrote some time back on a Challenger forum

"We have a 2010 RT Classic. And almost from day one it's had a Billet Technology catch can installed. It worked but not as I hoped it would.

So I ran a test. I attached another container inline between the B.T. and the intake. This was a Husky water separator for compressors with a transparent bowl'

I ran the car like this for about 300 miles and checked the Husky container just about every time I got home.

I could see that there were liquids building up in there. So the B.T. wasn't stopping all oil, water, etc. from going back into the engine when attached alone. I never expected that that any catch can could.

So looking at the baffle system I could see that the inlet and outlet chambers are side by side, so I suspect that as the oil mist enters the can some would drop and some is immediately sucked back out.

So I added a baffle / deverter. I cut a piece of tin to the canister inside diameter and shape. Then I made a narrow 90* bend at one edge and attached it to the center partition of the chambers using the existing little screws. Then I rebent the baffle at an angle toward the canister wall on the inlet side to force the incoming mist against that wall.

I also made a barrier going straight down, stopping short of going to the bottom. This also acts as barrier between the two chambers.

For me this worked. No more oil in the secondary can."

Here's the can o the wife's Challnger

Here's the same can on my 2000 Camaro with secondary canister showing completely empty on 3/3 2018 w/ 300 more miles. The 300 mile look see was because I ran that same mileage before the mods and showed oil in the secondary canister

Here's what was caught

Here's my Altoids can mods

Speaking of catch cans, is anyone running a Ford Performance one on the passenger side of their 18? I can not find any info on a Ford Performance catch can for the 18s.
