So
Unless you're doing a ton of dig racing, there's nothing to worry about. Most people roll race it seems, which negates the sitting in traffic thing.

I've had open boxes my 15 and 18. From my datalogs, there's no substantial power difference down low.
Some of us don't street race and prefer to do it at the drag strip. IATs at low speeds is extremely important there especially when you are waiting in staging lanes and you don't have people pushing your car. Even that short amount of time at the actual line can make a big difference. Sometimes you are waiting for a while for the other person to get situated. On a hot day it's even worse. With the PMAS I had for a short while on my 2012, it heated up rapidly and didn't really cool down to acceptable IATs until I was going over 70mph and cost me a LOT of ET and trap speed

Interesting, and it works? Pretty much similar concept of the Roush intake, no?

Just a quick example.
And this video is without complete sealing( with tape for filling gaps)

It works.

To be completely honest.
I use the car on track.. So for me is not so important because I move lots of air anyway.

I sealed my JLT
so on top of the 22whp gain vs the oem inbox ( dyno back to back both with tune 96oct)
I have the Engine bay heat protection from soaking air directly. Wich was causing loss or power.
So best of both worlds
Sealed box with huge tune and high flow filter

Since you don't care about looks either (I never did) if you want a little more IAT protection, I've found that this stuff: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-K...oil-Pipe-Wrap-Insulation-Tape-FV15H/100174724

works better than any actual intake heat wrap I've ever used. Made a gigantic difference with my PMAS (still bad though)...like 20 degrees F difference from what I remember. and it sticks really well so you can slap it on anything you want

I'll take a look! Thanks
Do you remember if it is easy to remove or remain sticky and in pieces??

I think it was pretty easy to remove since I removed it to sell the PMAS. I would compare it to more of a sticky putty

You guys are pretty resourceful with this stuff, where there’s a will there’s a way! Thanks for the video, seems to be much improved I’ll have to check this out. Thanks!

Do you guys offer e85 flex fuel tunes for the open and closed intake for the 18+ GT? Thanks!
Here is the latest video - For the 18+ cars we offer premium fuel (91-93oct) and e85 tunes. No flex fuel tune at this time.

On the JLT you can take some foam weather stripping (Lowes sells it, used to seal around in window AC units), cut a slit in it so it sits on the top rim of the "heat shield". If you double it up it will be high enough to seal the heatshield to the hood when shut. Since it is foam it just compresses to shape. I did this on mine to test the theory and it lowered IAT's while in traffic, and dropped them quickly once moving.

So I guess my question is, "why wouldn't you put a cover on it at time of manufacture?" Why leave it for hood to seal, not making any sense to me

they do it for looks i'm guessing, at the expense of performance. they can dyno test their vehicles with the hood open in ideal conditions and advertise those numbers instead of real world performance, so any negative effect on IATs doesn't factor into their marketing. then they have an open design that looks cooler to most people in the photos

The Steeda unit seals to the hood ... and we also offer the Closed Box Air Intake.

Thank you,
