Hey guys I’m looking at boosting my 2017 mt82 S550. It will be more of a roll race car then a 1/4. What’s the better setup for this type of racing and it will stay a semi daily driver. Turbo, whipple, TVs centrifugal. Let’s here from you guys that have the experience and help out a new guy to the sport. Thanks

How much steam you trying to make to be king of the bakery ? If your target number is in the 750 range I vote for whipple. North of 1k go turbo.

Whatever your choice (I went Whipple), longer gearing and MT/ET SS’ will help out that MT-82.

Lots of people say PD blowers are great for manual S550s. I had a Procharger D1SC with my MT82 car and loved it.

But turbos are best.

It will come down to total combo more than which power adder you use. Weight, gearing, tires, torque on hit, and high shifts (8k). Personally I'm doing a TVS 2.3 with intake cams that should put down around 750hp/600tq on low boost. Nothing crazy but it should run given 3650lbs (car only), geared perfect for 40-50 rolls with magnum xl trans (2.97 gear set), M&H 28" drag radials, 600 tq on hit, and shift at 8k. Broad power band with minimal shifts. Anything can be made to be fast these days but the guys that run focus on total combination.

Lol did you read any of the replies?

Let's start with YOUR actual goals, are you racing civics or GTRs or Underground's lambos? Street or events? 40-120? 60-180? How much do you want to spend? Are you capable of doing the work or a shop? Budget? Your definition of "semi daily"? Fuel?

We will be happy to spoon feed, but we need actual info, not "best roll race setup with 3.31"

Any FI will work "well" with 3.31 rear gear.

I did read the reply’s thanks. Event roll racing and I would like to get to the 800-900 hp level eventually with e85. Don’t need any spoon feeding from you.

I'd go TVS 2650 or whipple gen 5 if you're willing to stop at 800-900 hp. For the price and because you're a manual, you'll always have the power available as soon as you're on the gas.

I've raced centri, turbo, and tvs powered s550's. In my vmp car, I ALWAYS got the jump on turbo and centri cars when roll racing. Some people will say it won't always happen, but I'm just speaking from personal experience, and that would be my vote.
My next build is going to be turbo, only because I'm shooting for 4 digit numbers and I've just always wanted a turbo v8. Lol.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. What is your setup with your VMP? I have looked at that setup a lot and from most the videos I’ve seen, the vmp setups seem to do better than the whipples in this kind of racing.

I have had a lot of trouble roll racing VMP cars. They are very fast and work well with it. VMP 2650, e85, and 80mm pulley will probably get you to mid 800's.
