Is it just me or does it seem the car is faster if u leave in it drive and let the ecm do the downshift.Mine feels slower if i put it the pefered gear then punch it,seems when the ecm.does the downshift and convertor flashes the car takes off faster,but i could see that being hard on the convertor.So i guess its more of not breaking your trans putting it in sport mode and selecting the gear first,because letting the pcm do downshifts definitely feels faster,at least in my car.

I don't roll-race but I do enjoy these paddles! 58 years young, 1st. "paddle" car.

If the other car is a manual in its powerband it will jump on you pretty good.

Best way to bust a 6R80 is leave it in drive and punch it ...The fast kick down on the trans is what will bust the intermediate shaft .. Best way to do it is what has been said over and over in the above posts ..
Any idea why this is harder on the transmission. Is it because the car is at full power when it down shifts vs already being in the gear when it goes full power?

Yea i know lol,when i had my pp manual,i would jump out a couple cars on some auto's .Not looking forward to that happening to me now lol.Going to put a stall in my soon anyway.

Double stock power and kicking down 3 gear is no bueno.

I wonder if these high hp tunes are shutting off the transmission fail-safes such as torque reduction.

Dont think they would turn it off,but im sure it has to be tuned as that is part of torque managment and has to be tuned in order to launch the car without traction control cutting in.

I could be wrong but dont these 6r80s lock up the torque converter in 2nd when paddle shifting(sport mode)? Then when you mash the gas and bump the shifter back to drive the converter would unlock? Feel like this could potentially cause damage. But if everyone is doing just this without major issues maybe its nothing to worry about:shrug:

I roll race every weekend, best method I've found that has already been mentioned is put it in sport mode (S) down shift to the gear of choice BUT DON'T NOT PUSH THE BUTTON ON TOP OF THE SHIFFTER WHEN PUSH IT UP TO DRIVE (D)! This will allow you to push up to drive without having to worry about going into nutral no matter how hard you push up or excited you get.

I thought i tried that before and the shifter would not move unless the button was pushed in,i will have to try that again.

You can leave it in drive and use The paddle on the steering wheel to downshift to desired gear and just Hammer the pedal to the floor and the computer will take over. No need to put it in sport and worry about hitting neutral when going back to drive
exactly correct, best thing about the paddle mode in D

If you have a premium, put it in Sport mode but leave the shifter in D.

You can paddle and then the computer will take over after a few seconds, as mentioned earlier.

There is nothing different between Sport mode in D vs. Sport mode in S, except that in S the computer wont take over after you paddle the first time.
