Whats the best way to take off from the tree? Select mode into second gear, mash pedal then slap into drive and let the transmission take over?

If you have a premium, put it in Sport mode but leave the shifter in D.

You can paddle and then the computer will take over after a few seconds, as mentioned earlier.

There is nothing different between Sport mode in D vs. Sport mode in S, except that in S the computer wont take over after you paddle the first time.
That does work but the only problem sometimes it takes the 2 cars racing to get at an equal speed or one of guys isn't ready or the camera's aren't on & ECT. You only have a few sec leaving it in drive & using the paddles to put you in your power band if you don't go within those few seconds the trans automatically jumps into a higher gear & there is a good delay when the computer tells the trans to downshift from 5 or 6 to whatever gear it sees fit for the mph.
Not only that I've notice a few times that my car only downshift from 6th to 3rd from a 40ish roll but when I paddle shift I can get it in to 2nd & that makes a night & day difference in a race.

Put both the gear lever in S and the mode toggle in Sport+/Track. Then when you push forward to D, you still get the faster shifting. The slow shifting of Normal won't give the best acceleration.

It will go from sport to drive but not farther without pushing button in.
If you push the shifter quickly, you can actually push straight from S through D to N, without touching the button. If you push slower, some mechanism connects in D that prevents you from pushing in any direction without using the button. So just be careful. :)

Yes, I've gone right thru D and into N before.
