mine was waiting for approval for engine teardown last time I checked (3days ago). Tech thinks something wrong for sure. I will try to go to the dealer today to check. I cant get any answers on the phone.

Not much of a drive since the mileage in and out is the same lol.Thats the report they gave me... Seriously, this is bullshit.
When they drove the car out of the shop I could hear the tick from 100ft away and it got faster with more RPMs... So how an expanding noise get faster when accelerating?

If you make a case with Ford the issue is escalated to the dealers service manager.mine was waiting for approval for engine teardown last time I checked (3days ago). Tech thinks something wrong for sure. I will try to go to the dealer today to check. I cant get any answers on the phone.
FFS, that's my noise to a "T".Thats the report they gave me... Seriously, this is bullshit.

Ive done a fair bit of digging into this. It seems since the 5.0 coyote motor came about people have had this ticking and not once have I read that it resulted in someone getting a long block so I think it's a bit optimistic to hope for that. More than likely 3 things happen, the dealer blames it on exhaust, the dealer says its normal, or they actually do something about it and it ends with a new short block.FFS, that's my noise to a "T".
My tick is more noticeable while driving at 1500-2000rpms. Everyday when I leave work I hear it in the parking garage and it is kinda loud. So the dealers don't give a f***. Guys, let's stick together and do something. Ford will listen if we get enough people together complaining about it. This issue exists since 2010!!! Hasn't been fixed and won't be until we make Ford aware of it. And it isn't a Coyote only issue... the 6.7 Powerstrokes have it too!Mine has had the BBQ tick since first oil change at 8000km. I heard it as I was driving out of the dealer's lot, so I turned around and brought it up to them. Technician there deemed it as "normal" and they weren't going to look into it any further. Of course I protested, but at least I have it on paper that they determined it to be normal... lol. I don't go to that dealer anymore anyways, they tried to jerk me around on some other warranty work and I finally had enough of their games.
Anyway, I would really like to find the root cause of this noise, but I'm on the fence. It's not down on power at all, no codes, no flashing CEL, no misfires, nothing at all out of the ordinary except for this noise. It now has 40,000kms on it, and has been supercharged since just over 20k - Installed by Roush dealer, so warranty intact. My noise is a bit different as it does not happen at idle, only under very light throttle at around 1600-2000rpm. And even then, it doesn't do it all the time. I'd like to think its cam phasers doing their thing or maybe a lazy lash adjuster... but I don't know. It sounds identical to some of the videos I've see posted here... An intermittent metallic tapping noise, not a knock. It seems to be a little louder after an oil change, then quiets down after a while like others have said. The oil change before last, I could barely get the car to make the noise at all... although it was earlier in the year and colder outside.
I guess the point of my long-winded post is that I should probably bite the bullet and take it back in again, but part of me worries when I see Ford is only replacing short blocks and not giving a long block that is sealed from the factory. Yeah, I know, swapping heads and setting timing is not a big deal.. but seriously, the difference between "factory sealed" and "dealer sealed" is huge, at least in my mind.
I already did after the first week. It has been almost 3 weeks that it has been in the dealer. If you make a case with Ford the issue is escalated to the dealers service manager.
Wonder why Ford never put out a TSB for the Coyote engines? Strange ... wonder it they know t's not really "normal" on a gasoline engine.TSB on the typewriter noise
https://www.hotshotsecret.com/diagn...lletins-tsb/powerstroke-6-7-idle-ticktap-tsb/
Seems to be normal noise on the Powerstroke and sounds exactly like the BBQ tick. Maybe it is a normal condition of the engine... That would suck!
Did some more diggin on the Typewriter tick on the powerstroke and on the "strange fix" that one guy had in 2010 for his Coyote. See here: https://www.allfordmustangs.com/for...ang-5-0-engine-problem-fords-strange-fix.html
This strange fix or mystery additive is mentioned in this thread too: https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/3082604/Re:_Motorcraft_XL-17_mystery_a
Here is another thread about that, but there it is called Motorcraft XL-7 and not XL-17 https://www.svtperformance.com/forums/threads/engine-tick.818210/
They say that Ford is putting that stuff into the car in the factory to properly seat the valve train, after you change the oil (maybe too early) you don't have that XL-7 in your engine anymore and the tick comes back. Makes total sense to me and if that solves the issue, I want you all to kiss my feet HAHA
I will try to get this stuff and I will put it into my engine, can only find XL-3 on google can't find XL-7 and seems to be a differential friction modifier.
Yeah, there's been other info posted about some other kind of moly additive or similar someone put in their Boss 302 after the BBQ Tick showed up after an oil change. Not sure what ticking thread that comment was in.Did some more diggin on the Typewriter tick on the powerstroke and on the "strange fix" that one guy had in 2010 for his Coyote. Interesting data point. If Ford denies warranty because of an X-pipe they are total scammers trying to get out of warranty claims.UPDATE!
I just came back from the dealer. I talked to the technician.
First thing he asked me if I had a tune. I said no, it is all the way stock (I didnt mention about the X-pipe. It is the only thing I have).
He said, he found that the intake timing is advance by 20degrees. when he kills the vct solenoids the ticking stops. He reported this and now he is again waiting to hear back from Ford!
