Because it screws up the battery monitor in the car.
It screws itself up anyway, lol. I found on my car after long enough it forgets the state of charge and will run a bunch of battery/run cycles at full voltage regardless once you drive again. Connecting straight to the terminals is my recommendation now after going through doing it all the "correct" way.

If I had to guess it's because it stops doing the "learning the charge state after 8 hours" thing once it goes to deep sleep. At that point at least it won't matter how the charger is connected.

Of these three post near the fuse box in the picture which one post us best to connect the positive lead of my pigtail connector to? Or should I not connect a trickle type charger here at all? I’m assuming it’s ok to place the negative on the negative ground on strut tower where there is already a screw with what appears to be a ground? I want to leave the battery box cover on so I’m hoping to hook up a quick connect pigtail to my Noco G3500 for storage charging.

I think I used the front one for my Charger Cable. I have the connector coming from my grill so I don't have to open the hood to charge/trickle.
