Yes it has a fuse very close to the positive connection. Thanks for the chart. My tender draws 1500 ma.
If the tender draws 1.5 amps (assuming from a 120v outlet) it is capable of outputting 11.25 amps at 12v assuming 75% charger efficiency. They are variable output so this is just a maximum rating.

I have a soft spot for awesome connectors and this one is very cool and clean.

Sorry it was a poor choice of words on my part. The tender output is 1500 ma. That's what happens when you get old. The manual for my tender states the output for a 10 feet cable can be 18 gauge.

no way you can sustain 15 or 20 so amps on such a small gauge wire.....its going to overhear and melt.
Lol what? A 20 gauge wire can take 15amps depending on length. Length and gauge has to be spoken about together

Correct that both matter....power (heat dissipated into the cable) is current squared * R. Length matters more about voltage drop becuase power dissipation is per unit length normalized. How much wattage would be too much depends on length and insulation but lets say that under a half a watt or so per yard is a safer number than higher. R is the resistance of the wire as a function of cross sectional area * length. Gage is in even numbers but otherwise it doubles or halves cross sectional area for every 3 above or below your starting gage if 15 gage existed it would be 2x the cross sectional area and half the resistance of 18 ga and vice verse.
Trickle Example: 18ga is ~0.0064 ohms per foot. So 1500mA (1.5Amps) sq * 0.0064ohms is = 14milliwatts of heat dissipated per foot....or 43mW dissipated over a yard worth of cable - hardly anything that will be warm let alone hot or dangerous or lossy enough to care. For battery tending these gages are fine......and as the battery tops off the current drops so its only weak or drained batteries where gage becomes an issue and trickle charger will only put out a trickle (limited current) no matter what heavy load it is given. The Germans know Ohm's law so their mag connection is fine and no doubt went through painful compliance testing.
Yes, I'm a EE
(who's developed batterycharging systems for med devices among other less mission critical products including some fun IndyCar team suspension performance test hardware).

Anyone else besides me couldn't care less about the current (no pun intended) topic in this thread but would rather focus on the AM??

Mike man, let's see that car. If there ever was one other single car that I'd be willing to shoe horn into my price range, it's the new Vantage. Please kind sir, tell me all about it.

Yes this thread kind of got derailed from its original intent by someone making a statement that he had no clue about the facts of this installation. If it's good enough for Aston Martin to install it on all their cars from the factory I am guessing it is well engineered and is good to go on a Mustang.
I don't want to go in a different direction on this thread so I will PM you pictures and information on the Aston. Cheers

Nice set up, but why drill if not necessary?
I wanted access to the connector from the outside of the car. I drilled through the plastic wheel well liner which is no big deal to me. It is cheap and easily replaced if the next owner does not want the hole and connector. It is not 1965 Shelby.

I realized I needed a battery tender on my s550 as I have not been driving it this winter (I had the ignition on while installing a A10 shifter ball and the battery died in about 45 mins). Installed a wired hookup that lives under the hood and also works with my boost jumper.

Oops, just realized this is the GT350 section…. Oh well it’s applicable.
