i'm sure you will not listen but you should get some cerakote v-136 for the top a bottom of the pistons and c-110 for the skirts. should look like this. you can apply the coatings at home. about $90 total

I don't think I'd want some amateur to remove and replace rings on a good running engine that I built. Too easy to scratch the piston or break a ring. If you really are green you could install it upside down.

Since you took it apart I'd clean the bores and hope for the best.

there is a lot that is going to go wrong with this build. all we can do is clean everything 3,4,5 time and pray

do you have a ring compressor for the bore not a autozone compressor?

Assembling my gen3 coyote shortblock.

Any tips on cleaning the engine and best practices when re-assembling? The motor was a used motor I bought from another user.

I’m going to leave the rings as the previous owner gapped them, but I am going to replace all the bearings.

Also thoughts on the cylinder walls? Is the spray in liner okay, and can it be damaged easily?

Hard to tell from this pic, but how deep is the ridge?

Possibly a carbon ridge.
It’s impossible that there is “ZERO” ridge. That would equal zero wear and that’s impossible. The question becomes at what measured decimal place to the right of the dot (0.0000)
This ain’t Briggs & Stratton shit here.

Now back to the OP reusing the factory installed rings with 26k of run in.
What is the OEM installed ring gap orientation on all 3 rings ? It’s important that those locations are correct at assembly.

Nah, they spin in the grooves. Just don't line them up. Top and second ring 180 apart. Oil rings 180 apart and 90 degrees from the compression rings.

if the cylinders are harder than the rings and oil got to them properly they can show no ridge

Like a ring compressor when putting the piston in?

I didn't know that it mattered if I use a cheap one or not.
