I know the possibility of a 2.7L EcoBoost Mustang has been discussed previously, but I am wondering if anyone (besides me) is actually considering holding off on the purchase of a new 2.3 or 5.0 in anticipation of it?
There has been talk of the 2.7L EB replacing the V8, but I honestly don't see that happening any time soon. I am leaning strongly towards the 2.3L EB today, but I would be bummed if a 2.7L came out in, say, 2016 or 2017. Of course I could always just trade up, which is probably what I would/will do (because I need the new Mustang way sooner than that!).
I can't help but think that they chose the 2.3L because the 2.7L would have been too close to the 5.0 in terms of performance and cost to adequately differentiate their launch lineup. The 2.3L is awesome by all accounts, and highly tunable, but I still think it may be a little bit too small, too much of a compromise on performance, for a car this size (for my desires anyway). But the GT isn't really worth the price premium when it comes down to it (again, in my eyes). Doesn't mean I won't buy and love either one of them, but I really wish you could get a 2.7L that slots in-between the 2.3L and the 5.0 in the lineup. I'd pay an extra $3000 for that engine.
