Anyone Experience This?

I was spraying the Mustang down at the carwash today and noticed that when the water hits around the door handle the lights come on and door locks hit as if I was trying to grab the handle. I figured the smart lock was tripping out when the sprayer hit that area. I believe I can turn the smart lock off to test but didn't think about it till later. Anyone else notice this?

I get something similar when I try to unlock when it is raining hard. I reach in and pull the handle, and it locks instead of unlocking.

Then I find myself in this silly hokey pokey dance of putting my hand in, pulling it out, trying to find the right combination as I stand there and get soaked.

I suspect that the lock sensor is capacitative, and the water is just conductive enough to trip it.

If you put your key FOB in the car or far away from it, that won't happen.

Just put the key away from the car. I usually leave it in my garage about 10 feet away from where I wash it and it doesn't trip the locks.

Mine also glitches when the handles are wet from rain. I just make sure to give it a good grip and wait a second or two before i try to open the door.

I have the same experience with two other cars I have.
Try removing your keys from your body when you wash the car and the locking and lighting issue should not happen.

Happens on mine too when washing in the driveway. Our Toyota Highlander does the same thing.

Whenever I'm washing the car and the key is in my pocket it does it. Thought I was going crazy the first time it happened. I just leave the key inside the car now and it doesn't do it anymore.

I noticed the same thing. But if you're at the car wash, don't leave the key in the car, you don't want to take a chance on getting locked out.

And yes, it does happen. The manual might say the car is too smart for that, but the system was designed by humans. My mom works at a roadside assistance call center and she gets quite a few calls for people locked out of their "keyless" car because their key is inside the car and it locked them out.

Thanks for the replies. I was at the car wash and thought about leaving the fob in the car but decided against it. I plan on washing the car in the driveway for the most part but I had to just spray it down as it was really dirty,

Better yet if you put your ear by the handle and put your hand inside the handle without pulling it, you can hear heartbeats.
