Its always on. It always transmits info back to Ford. If you want to keep it, then I strongly recommend you opt out of sharing your information with insurance companies. I believe if you have FordPass, you are automatically opted in on that.

If you don't want your information collected or shared under any circumstance, I suggest you pull the fuse to the telematic modem or physically pull the power/data harness to the modem.

If anyone wants more info, search it here on this forum.
You mean it will send how fast the car is going?.. Even though nobody here would ever go over the speed limit

Tinfoil hat stuff. This debate has gone on since the early days of on star in 1997. It has never been used for insurance co or accident blame data afaik. If that has changed please provide credible proof. These companies realize handing this data to anyone but the registered owner is a massive privacy breach for which they would be liable.

I wrap my phone in a magnetic shield for this very reason when I’m in my 350.

Well I entered my Vin (car is not built yet) into my ford pass app just to see what would happen and this came up. Hopefully I didn't mess anything up lol!

I love it on my F150. Use it all the time in the winter to warm it up. They had problems with it and the new iPhone software and it didn't work for a few months. Just installed the new version of the app and it seems to work fine. Haven't used it on my GT350 yet as the weather has been too bad to get the car home from the dealer.

I actually use it every once in a while, but only to lock my car when I know I forgot to! Other than that? Nope.

I won’t use it. Disabled all the connectivity in the sub menus. Sick and tired of being treated like a human commodity

I would not be so sure man. The sub-menu in the car states it’s for insurance tracking purposes. It monitors your speed and driving habits. My insurance company actually quoted me based on having it.

All smart devices/features are designed for information gathering, either for marketing/product improvements or more nefarious reasons in other parts of the world. The fact you can’t remote start the car without the app is a good example. You should not need an app for that, or a smart phone just to remote start your car. It’s not a technological limitation. My 2003 Accura has that feature, just a button press.

If it’s free, you are the product. Some people are ok with this. I’m not. Everyone was just fine without all this stuff 10 years ago. No one needs it. It’s a convenience. With just your phone number and some elbow grease I can track you via Wi-Fi networks it reaches out to. I can figure out where you live by how long it stays on a network and all I need is an internet browser. There are plenty of websites that have been created to do creepy stuff like this. I can even determine the name of your WiFi Network. Why people trust companies with so much information is beyond me.

I didn't have FordPass and I could remote start my '19 GT with the key fob. That should work up to 300 ft.

Couldn't have said it better. We as a society carry enough tracking devices.

Fordpass in a F250? Maybe. Mustang 5.0? NO.

How does Fordpass work on the pre-2019 cars if they do not have the modem hardware? Or does it upload via the App on your phone when it connects to the car?

I don't have Fordpass but I am just curious.

Here's the article with what you are referring to:
https://www.theautochannel.com/news/2021/01/04/936193-ford-to-sell-auto-insurance.html

Note the wording below the sensationalist headline "customers who CHOOSE to do so". There is a massive difference between opting into monitoring for the discount or not and how that would play in any court if it made it that far.

Since this is the GT350 forum, and just to clarify, Remote Start is not available. I believe this is the case for all manual transmission Ford vehicles.

And you do not need to subscribe to a cellular account for Ford Pass to work. You can use most features via bluetooth connectivity to your phone. However, you can connect to open signal wifi when in range, or in my case, connect to the house wifi for OTA software updates.

For those who do not want their personal data farmed, I certainly respect their choice to not register Ford Pass or even disable the in car modem.
