I like the idea of adding a supercharger and bumping up the low end torque on this engine, and taking it from 526HP to maybe something like 700. At this point it would be very fast and still streetable without having to worry about breaking the tires loose in third gear the way you do with the Hennessy 850 plus horsepower setups. A lower-powered setup would also be less strain on this high revving engine and promote longevity. Isn't there a way we can do something in between the stock horsepower levels and the crazy amounts that come from these kits offered by manufacturers?

Buy the smallest blower system, and keep it pullied down to 580-600whp ish. It's not very difficult and you can do it on 91-93 octane.

I believe the Whipple style have better low-end torque, correct? There are a lot of companies making s/c setups, not sure where to even start on this kind of idea.

It’ll still break the tires in third gear. My 20 had a whipple setup, made 750 corrected, and 650 at a mile in elevation. All your after is a detuned version of which ever manufacturer you chose. Hennessey uses crank numbers for marketing purposes, that’s where they get the 850 they run with. These cars have been boosted in just about every possible way and there very reliable and solid. There’s no mystery to it at this point on how to do it properly.

So I guess I could contact one of the companies and ask them for options for detuning and see what they say.

Horsepower claims from the manufacturers should be taken with a grain of salt. Whipple’s 825hp rating, with long tubes and full 3ā€ exhaust made 622 to the tires with Whipple’s tune. And if for whatever reason you wanted less, you don’t have to do the exhaust and put a 4 ā€ pulley on it and be in the 560-580 range at the tires.

Appears they only offer for Coyote
They mention the 350 in the description on their site (the tune that comes with the kit doesn’t work with the 350, have to get a custom tune). If it’s something you’re interested in, might be worth reaching out to VMP.

Exactly, Just load a 9lb Lund tune into the 350 with the Loki and your done

Of course u could also do the Whipple too

But being a 6sp you could also go ESS or Paxton at 9lbs and a Lund Tune

350 would shine with a centri too

I just am "blown" away that a company doesn't offer a "Stage 1" s/c setups of some kind with a 650hp level of power. That is very common, and you pay more for the upgraded parts to allow for 800+HP.

Stage 1 stuff is really just bait marketing to get you looking by showing a lower cost. The whipple setup and tune for pump gas works very well and there was no benefit to cracking it to it and changing it. Driveability is pretty much stock. The last thing I would do on one of these cars is attempt to go cheap as possible. There’s really not much of a difference between right and skimping in the end. If your going to do a pump gas tune theres no need for headers and high flow cats. Edelbrock has a nice setup as well but I don’t have any first hand knowledge on its driveability. The roots stye setups do look a little more oem in my opinion.
