So quick talking about it and sell it.
I'm trading it in.. either at the end of this year or next.. I have equity in it and it's a nice car..

All the thoughts I had of modding it are out the window. I even removed the MMR intake I installed, even tho I loved the sound, I'm keeping it bone stock until my insurance premium drops a bit, that's really the only thing keeping me out of a GT. I'm even considering trading in for a V6 at this point...

I hope you are kidding? A mass produced stock motor should not "blow" if you decide to floor it in 5th gear at 60 mph...If this really is a "known issue" that is pretty sad if you ask me. :ford:
Agree. If they knew it would be a problem maybe they need to limit the amount of throttle should be applied in the ECU.

Say what you want but it is what it is. This is not a new thing, even 03/04 Cobra owners learned it the hard way.

Not to mention he was in 5th not 6th so hell in my mind that was a good choice of gear for a pass at 60 mph and kind of rules out the LSPI theory anyway.

My money is on the dealer creating some warranty work when they had their hands on it.

It is absurd to think in 2015 I can walk in to a Ford dealer and buy what is essentially an "economical" performance car where I should mindful of driving 60 in 5th gear. If the engine is that sensitive, it should not be in a mass market vehicle.

It may seem absurd, but stomping on it with this motor in 5th or 6th with low RPM accounts for almost every time they have blown.

By no means did I stomp on it. Additionally, the car did not come with a disclaimer that said no sudden acceleration in 5th or 6th. If that is the case with this engine, then I'm very happy I can hand them back the keys next year and walk away.

Lol at the guy blaming 5th gear at 60mph to accelerate. Total bologna.

Ok, you don't consider passing someone going 60 mph while in 5th gear stomping on it. I may have chosen the wrong words. I'll try to correct myself. Virtually all of the examples of this motor blowing are from people passing cars while remaining in 5th or 6th gear instead of dropping down to 4th. Most of the time people get away with it, but a small percentage of the time people don't. It is a known weakness in this motor. If you look up LSPI you can read all about it. It sounds like this platform may not be the right one for you, especially after this unfortunate incident. Luckily you were able to get the motor replaced under warranty and will be able to get away from it. Maybe replacing it with a GT will be in your future. These are such beautiful cars, hopefully you will find one that suits your needs better. I wasn't trying to say you did something stupid. Just did something that has bitten a few people.

There are bigger problems then gunning it in 5th gear with this engine. I will be posting my story next week once the repairs are done, but you can guess how it ends and I was in 2nd gear.

My choice of words in the original post were poor as well. I should have said I was going around another car as I wasn't passing in the sense of suddenly accelerating to get around them.

I do agree that the car was beautiful enough to make me buy my first American branded car in 20+ years. Unfortunately the quality is a constant reminder of why I stopped buying them in the first place.
