Hello All,
So I have had my 16 Base GT 6 Speed for about a month and a half now. Just over 700 miles so far (Yes I am really babying it).
I have 2 questions:
- First, I only plan to drive the car between 300 to 500 miles a month (It’s a weekend type car for me, maybe the occasional drive to work sometimes). Since the Maintenance schedule calls for the first oil change around 7000 miles, it could be a little while before I hit that. Should I get my oil changed sooner or just wait till around 7K regardless of how much time passes by?

- Second question, when I am shifting between gears 1 through 3, sometimes even up to 4th gear, there seems to be a thumping type noise and I can feel it too. Maybe I am just not shifting correctly (being too careful perhaps). I don’t really hear it or feel it above 4th. Not sure how else to describe it. I’ve never had a Mustang or Ford before so I thought maybe that is how this transmission sounds/feels but still wanted the opinion of the forum.

Thanks for your input in advance.

I would just change it at 7000 miles. Also the shifting has been talked about in the forums and it is comoletely normal.

advice for first oil change is a little murky. Some people change it fast. But if you go by the book, you could just let the car computer tell you when its time. Which I think will be one year, if you don't put many miles on the car.

when is the thump ? clutch pushed in, changing into new gear? You trying to do that fast or slow?

I am happy with my MT82. But if I was concerned that it might be goofed, I would head back to the Ford dealership and test drive a brand new one for comparison. You might even test drive a Challenger | Camaro for comparison. Those run Tremec manuals.

Generally speaking, I am a slow shifter
rev to 4000 RPM, clutch, wait a couple of seconds, shift, rinse & repeat
nothing unusual from my previous cars with manual transmissions
anything faster than one second might require an aftermarket shifter

Regular intervals. Then, down the road do a Amsoil trans fluid swap.

There is a thread regarding the thumping sound.
It's basically slop in the drive train.

I would do it at 1K miles and then every 5K miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. Like Chameleon said, AMSOIL if you want the best.

I changed mine at 1,000 - and then at 5,000 - and finally, at 10,000 miles. I plan on running 5,000 mile intervals from now moving forward. Probably overkill, but I am a huge believer in things running for a good long time based on little more than changing the oil. Royal Purple 5W20 with a Motorcraft FL500 filter

The AMSOIL, is that strictly a Transmission Fluid?
