Why is it we are never satisfied with the performance we have on our Mustangs?
More HP/TQ
Better throttle response
Better handling, i.e. springs/shocks/struts/anti-hop, sway bars, tires, etc.

The 2019 Bullitt I purchased recently is an excellent car. Really excellent. But my mind wanders to "more torque", etc. It runs great. What is the problem?

The Coyote is a howler.... it likes to sing and it's better in packs.

I prefer the downlow punch of the pushrod because it is mindless and effortless. With the coyote, you have to have a growling attitude and keep the Revs higher for throttle punches.

Or slap a supercharger on the Yote and get down-low TQ & a howler...

97% of Mustang owners are completely satisfied with the performance of their cars.

Members of Mustang forums are NOT normal Mustang owners.

Because we grow out of it. The first time I drove a foxbody I was blown away by the power. Years go on, that sort of power becomes normal, I get behind my 2019 GT and can't believe how fast it is. A couple thousand miles in and I'm now comfortable with it; it's no longer a frightening beast I'm scared to unleash. This is usually the case until you make more power than you can reliably transfer to the pavement, whether at a drag strip, track, or if it's just a street car.

There are differences in application, as well. A boosted engine will feel different than an N/A engine. A pushrod will feel a lot different than our DOHC. Pushrods are fun, and my typical engine of choice because I have the power immediately, but the high revving power of the coyote feels more like a drug. I remember driving my friend's civic SI over a decade back and loving how it revved out. My Mustang, with the pushrod 5.0, dusted it, but there was just something exhilarating about letting the engine speed climb and climb, even if we weren't really going that fast. Now I can do the same, but actually feel myself be pushed back, and it's one hell of a thrill. So yeah, prefer the pushrod in general but I'll probably find myself enjoying the DOHC much longer. But, as with all things, I'll grow out of it and want faster. Just like the saying "there's always someone faster," there's always a way to go faster. We can even dive deeper and say it's just raw human nature to desire what we don't have.

The problem is that you haven't installed a Whipple on that thing yet.

True and not true. Mustangs are one of the most modded cars out there. Also like 99% of Jeeps are modded.

I'd imagine the percentage modded of either is a lot lower than you think. I'd bet 90% or more are left stock. Most people buy a car and drive it.

I think many forums (certainly this one and the vette forum) are basically a group of folks that want to mod their cars (regardless of current state) and really enjoy learning about others endeavors or like myself, discovering stuff they never even thought of. I am very pleased with my car and now I'm outright spoiled. Not sure what in the world I would do next or buy next (that I can afford anyway, but it would have a snake on it). I'm satisfied with the car, but still fun to see what others are doing to theirs, weigh the benefits and ponder if that is something to embark on or not. Kinda like my music hobby- stereo gear is getting stupid expensive, but still fun to shop. However the forums are MUCH less entertaining...lol.

The proof that a lot of people mod their mustangs is looking at used ones about 5 years old. I would say a good 20% or more are modified from stock. Once you go six or seven years older you're looking at least half of them are modified .

I'm good. I can't imagine having more power and still being streetable, but then again, I have a Whippled car so... If my car was N/A, I'd do some mods until at least 500hp FWHP

I'm at same point as you with a Roush. A Stage 2 I'm told is only 1200 bucks!. But what would I do with more HP, this thing rocks just fine. Now it needed wheels, tires, stripes (5hp), 350R gear shift knob (another 5hp) and stuff like that and I still look at it and wonder what's next (especially the engine bay) but for now I'm done. Sorta...Kinda I mean. Almost positive....

Logging into this forum every day isn’t good for my bank account. I see shit on here each time I log in and add it to my future mod list.

Once you’re bitten by the bug, you’re not going anywhere. You might take a break but you’ll be back.

@Dfeeds said it well. After a break from the car scene and coming from the Fox Bodies into this car I was amazed at its performance. As I got acclimated to the car it began to feel “normal”. My goal has always been 850whp so I’ll plug away until I get there. I’d like to say I’d be satisfied with that but who knows.

When I bought mine, I told my wife and myself I wouldn’t need to do anything because it was already powerful enough. Now I’ve spent about 12k in the last year and still have lists going on what to do next... for me it’s a pursuit of happiness, not necessarily power, despite that being the end result. I enjoy the time spent working on her, even when it annoys the hell out of me. Have had her since she was 2 miles old, and no one else has done any work on her except me. Correction, had someone mount the new tires to the wheels, but I brought them the parts so I didn’t have to bring my car there. The way I look at it, is if I’m ever done working on her, then it’s time for a new one. If I wanted a car to just drive around, I’d buy some other Ford product.
