Searched through the extensive library of A10 posts, but didn't see this addressed. If already addressed, just link to post page and /thread.

Does the 'adaptive learning' get separated by drive mode, or does it apply what it learned when in 'normal' mode to 'Sport+' , 'Track' etc...?

Do you have to get significant driving time in each mode for the shifts to start to get smoother on that mode, or is at a global adaptation where all modes learn at the same time from your driving habits?

In my experience it’s separated by drive modes… it could just be a placebo effect thou. After a new tune is loaded I usually just drive around in normal mode for a few days and then drag mode for a few days till I don’t have any weird shifting.

The shop that did my trans told me there is a way to speed it up and I have never actually tried it. If I remember correctly… you start in 1st with the paddle shifter and take 1st to like 5 or 6k and go through all the gears the same way till 6th gear. Once again they told it to me once and there was a lot of information coming at me at one time so this maybe inaccurate and honestly I don’t have a place to be able to do such a procedure.

I’m in to hear the answer on this one too. My car has never been in normal mode for more than 10 minutes since new.

I'm curious as well. Although I have come to believe they're suggesting the driver learn to adapt to how the transmission shifts. I have never noticed any "learning" from any vehicle I've owned that said it had adaptive learning.

I don't want to highjack this thread but, what exactly changes when switching to drag mode?
I just tested it yesterday. Seems to let the TC slip more and removes the ability to get to 9th and 10th gear. But I am not sure it makes me launch any faster than the other modes? What is it supposed to do?

For the OP. it would make a lot of sense if it learned in every mode and I hope that's true. But I haven't noticed things changing...and I don't have much confidence in Ford to program it correctly...

I really only use it for the little bit of gearing change than normal mode like you said and how it changes my suspension setup since I have Magneride on the car.

Hey @PhillyMike - welcome to the site and stick around for lots of great folks and tech.

So the adaptive learning isn't based on a Trans or Drive mode per se, it's how the vehicle is driven:
- Duration (how long from point A to B)

- Consistency (is vehicle driven same distance daily along same route from point A to B)

- RPM/MPH (is the vehicle maintaining consistent ranges or is the vehicle constantly hunting for gears based on traffic patterns as opposed to open road, etc.)

- Traffic patterns (plays a role because if in congested traffic or consistent "stop-n-go" traffic, as opooser to some areas of the Country where there Is total open rural highways for miles, determines who often the trans sees changes in shift patterns and where to keep optimal trans gearing again based on rpm/speed).

You might have seen the large FAQ thread. Within it are quite a few hyperlinks regarding the Trans Mode vs. Drive Modes, as well as quite a few pdf's attached regarding the 10R80 operation. If you have not seen that thread, here it is - and you don't need to go through all the pages in the thread. Just hit Post # 1, Page 1 and scroll down to view any of the FAQ links provided and/or to get to the attached PDF's.

I'm the opposite of you in that I rarely had my shifter in the S position except when I tested it using the paddle shifters. I didn't carefully read the manual so thought that the S position was keeping it in manual mode (no automatic shifting) but found out that if you don't touch the paddles, it will automatically shift though the shift rpm and such would be higher. I did find that the shifts from gear to gear is not only firmer, but faster (less lag time between gears) so I presume the adaptive learning is separate for normal and S mode because I don't drive it hard a lot. It feels really great in S mode but I like the fuel economy in D mode better. ;-)
