When I dropped my car off yesterday for the evaporator to be replaced (tech said it was the blend door that failed, but evaporator and blend door are the same part) the service manager advised me the part # has changed for this. I am assuming this means an updated version is being installed. I should pick up by end of the day to confirm if all is well.

We hear so many of failed ones, what about the ones that haven't? who has the most miles of function without any issues?
I have 40K miles and the evaporator has not failed, and I live in New Mexico where it gets pretty hot (but not humid). However, now that I'm out of warranty, the fan speed has started acting up... looks like I'll be replacing a fan speed controller on my own dime pretty soon. Hope the evaporator holds up.

if you have the ford extended warranty, it should come with what's called "day one rental"

ugh. my ac just died today. i've been having the bad smell coming from the vents on cold startup for a few months now and the dealer blamed it on a bad cabin filter, which did nothing after i replaced it. right before losing the ac i could hear a faint whining sound from within the engine bay, but i could not determine what it was... and then it stopped blowing cold.

mine is a 2015. i only have something like 8k miles on the odo... sigh.

Yup the odd smell on startups sounds all to familar. My first one went out within about the first 4k miles.

Wondering if this is an issue but as of yesterday I noticed my driver side blowing ambient air while passenger side blows cool air and this will last for first 5-10 minutes or so of my drive. Should I be concerned? I don't want to jump to conclusions yet because they just had my car for nearly 2 weeks fixing some stuff they broke, doing the recall and hiding my car from that bitch Irma.

i missed closing time yesterday and was unable to get an appointment. the dealer i use needs 2 weeks advanced notice for a service loaner so i'm going to have to sweat it out... literally. i have another dealer that's 10 minutes away from where i live (the other is over an hour's drive), but they have such a bad rep for poor service and work i don't dare go there.

i don't know what i have is what you had to go through. i never experienced the split zone failure with only one side blowing cold... everything was cold in mine right up to the moment it quit.

why wont ford issue a recall at this point? i'm guessing its an expensive repair that why..
it was explained to me that a recall only occurs if it is a problem that is considered unsafe (eg. killer takata airbags)... at the most this will only generate a TSB?

That's what happened to mine a few weeks of the odd smell on start-ups. Then the cold passenger side warm driverside. The first time it happened it just stopped blowing cold air completely. Dealer told me since it was leaking the passenger will blow colder because it's closer to he evaporator., the further the vents the warmer the air. Took them two days to fix, at first they just replaced the actuator. For the blend door. And that didn't work so replaced the whole thing.

I'm probably jinxing myself with this post, but I'm coming up on seven weeks since I recharged the system myself and it's still blowing cold. Maybe the sealant in the recharge plugged the leak. Fingers still crossed.
Me too. Almost 9 weeks now. I actually wanted to take it in to be replaced, but I can't while it's still working.:shrug::shrug:
