I'm purely speculating here, but Ford launched the official 2020 Mustang site today and the GT500 is featured on it. Under the engine overviews, if you click on GT500 you are presented with the following information:

Now my question . . . why not just put 760hp?
We had to put up with that silly puzzle piece hp reveal to finally find out the actual hp of 760, and now they say "projected at over 700 hp".

Here is my conspiracy theory:
I think Ford is responding to the C8 launch, and all of the bowtie fanboys, by squeezing more power out of the GT500. They already changed from the previously mentioned 180mph top speed to the new 186mph on the new Mustang page. I think that they will announce a higher hp rating (maybe 785hp), 0-60 at 3.3s and 1/4 mile at 10.8s.

I may be overthinking this.
Your thoughts?

The top speed is electronically limited. Things happen at 200 mph, mainly involving tires, that ford does not want to get involved with. If they advertised it or gave owners the ability to go that fast it would cause liability without the appropriate corresponding investment.

I personally believe the engine is/will be underrated. Ford has decided, or perhaps is still deciding, how much to underrate.

I'm also much more interested in lap times. If I wanted 1/4 mile times I'd get a hellcat right now and be done with it.

I think you are over thinking this. At this point, it is going to be what it is going to be.

Save the conspiracy theories for the C8 forum and the History channel. No one ACTUALLY buying a Gt500 is concerned
I am actually buying one, but I’m not concerned.
I’m just interested in the inconsistency in marketing.

Ford, you are a multibillion dollar company . . . Clean it up and announce the final numbers already.

Multibillion dollar companies have break downs in communication everyday, Ford is no different.

Speaking of conspiracy theories. I heard Epstein’s body cremated it’s self. While the medical examiner stepped out for a moment.

One correct answer...

It's because you're looking at old marketing material being regurgitated. That is from before 760 was announced.
Not true. It’s from today. Check it out yourself on Fords website under the 2020 mustang.

I wonder if the 760 HP is the final number, originally the 2013 GT500 was listed at 650 HP and was later changed to 662 HP after it was SAE certified. Does anyone know if the new GT500 has received it's final SAE certification?
