My setup is in my signature. After the Whipple install I went to the track and on the 1-2 shift the car falls on its face hard and flares to 8,200rpms. Lund told me the clutches in the trans were bad, so I just had a new PBH (rated to 1,000HP) trans installed, and a different Circle D converter (also new). There was absolutely no change, so I'm looking for input from anybody that might have dealt with this issue.

Nope, it dead hooks and doesn't spin anywhere in the run. I don't pull the fuse, and instead hold the traction control switch for 5 seconds until the disable light comes on. The tune asks for it to shift at 7,500rpm, and the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts are great.

I had that same issue on mine. Would hit the limiter everytime on the 1-2 shift. I had to ask them to command the 1-2 at 6,400rpm and it typically sees 8,000 on the 1-2 shift. All my other shifts were good to go from the start.

Jr. We but I never had to have him adjust. If anything originally it was set too low and dasan raised it. Jr, took over after dasan passed and raised the 1-2.

My tuner was Dakota. But I talked with 2 other people who had the same issue with their Whipple Tune from Lund. It was easy though. I asked and he backed it down and now it shifts good on the 1-2. Since they all use the same base files im sure anyone would have this issue.

Sadly according to Alex this is "hack tuning" and he was not happy about changing the shift points and continues to blame the new transmission for the same identical issue that we had prior to a brand new PBH build transmission and tighter converter (per Circle D's suggestion). I am trying to help Jeff get this thing running and shifting as it should. Alex finally sent over a new tune with revised shift point and Jeff will data log it this evening to see what the results from said change are.

Who knows, was told by Alex that they've never had this issue and they never do that type of hack tuning. I just want the car to do what it is supposed to do for my customer (OP of this thread). It's not an installation issue, it's not a transmission issue and the problem is identical to what is was prior to him spending almost $7k to change all of the things he was told to change, literally identical. So one could deduce that it may be something in the tune if everything else is on point. We checked the fluid level numerous time (customer and myself) and it is spot on. When we did the swap PBH sends the trans dry so we filled it with their recommended Ford LV fluid and it took near 12qts with a new converter.

Sorry, just venting a bit...

Yeah ive heard him say that on his podcast. But it just seems the 1-2 shift happens so fast the mechanical side of the transmission needs more room to shift. My 2-3 and 3-4 were always perfect.

I just went back as far as I could in my logs, 1-2 leads the actual shift by about 1800-2000rpm, 2-3 about 800, 3-4 about 300rpm

This sounds identical to my situation. My issue was the 3-4 shift and both Tuners (PBD & Lund) had issues with it until they unlocked the convertor.

PBD - said my trans was the culprit, like you I called PBH and spent over $7K on a new one. Went to the track, same exact issue. Rob unlocked my convertor and bam, the car finally made a full pass. I too watched Alex's show, which was the reason I switched to Lund

Lund - Dakota had issues with the 1-2 shift and the car ATE the limiter. After switching back to Lund my 3-4 issues returned because they locked the convertor back. I brought the car to the track probably 5 times trying to make a clean pass and finally gave up after I continued having 3-4 issues. I was told it had something to do with the torque limiter in 3-4. Not bad, 15 shitty passes for 1200 bucks or whatever it cost.

The good news is now I switched to a TH400 with a manual valve body and started a new build.
