Ignore the strut tower bar and compare how the engine sits in relation to the actual strut towers. If anything, the new car's engine sits higher than the '11-14 cars.

Anyone besides me see the resemblance with the stock airbox to the previous 5.0/302 intake manifold?

Thanks for the pic.

Another :( for the prop rod though. I guess someone will come up with a hood strut kit eventually I hope. I will have to buy or paint a black coolant reservoir top though. The thing sticks out like a pulsating organ from an abdominal wound.

Love me some TY though. :)

I don't think that it sits higher as much as I believe the top of the Strut Towers are a bit Lower along with the height of the Firewall.look at the distance from the top of the engine to the Edge of the Cowl at the Base of the Windshield on both the 14 & 15 Engine Bay Pic's. We know the Base of the Windshield was Lowered significantly.Looks like a good 3 inches Id say.

The S197 used 4 bolts for the strut mounts, the new S550 uses three to save weight as many people have said on this board. But with the new strut brace design there are two extra bolts since the brace doesn't connect to the strut mounts. Why do they use extra bolts?

Do the braces from the strut tower to the cowl/firewall attach at that rear bolt as well?

I have never heard that assumption that going to 3 strut tower bolts was to save weight. The new STB is clearly larger and likely heavier than the S197 STB so there isn't any likely weight savings going on.

There is definitely a lot of new trim and covers(battery area) in the new engine compartment. I guess any accurate way of measuring engine placement would be to compare against the wheel centerlines.

I've been waiting to see a good shot of the engine with respect to the front wheel center line. I thought we would have seen one by now. But of course engine placement is just one part of the equation. To get good weight distribution there has to be other weight saving measure upfront.

Don't know if this has been posted yet or not but here is an excerpt from and interview with Dave Pericak. Excerpt is in relation to engine position.

ae: Have you changed the positioning of the engine within the platform? Many new car developments place the front-mounted powerplants further behind the front axle and/or lower for better weight distribution and a lower center of gravity. How about the new Mustang?

DP: When you do an all-new platform, which is what we've done and you're trying to put three different engines in there, every one of the units has gone through a bit of a tweaking to fit in that space. Is there something major? No, but it's not in the exact same location where it's been before."
