My previous ride had stock 3.31 gears but I think I want to go with a 3.55 or 3.73 and need some input from the knowledgeable folks as to which is the best set up for all around performance? .
Not much of a difference really. :headbang:

For all you guys that say 3.73 Gears are faster, I found this very interesting.

Ohh you drove one with it already? Give us a review.
Or are you basing that on your current beast the Corolla?
It's an automatic. There's nothing fun about any automatic in a sports car. I see you drive one yourself.

Nice try though.

3.55's with tires an inch shorter than stock will feel much the same as 3.73's with stock tires in terms of throttle response (and speeds in gears). A little more sparkle in street driving, earlier (and sometimes more) shifting on any given road course.

I would wait and test drive the 18 10spd Auto.
If you're coming from an automatic, especially one with fewer speeds, I can see the appeal.

Coming from MT cars, with intent to go that way again, the A10 might be intriguing enough on a test drive but could easily lose its appeal once you settle into just shoving the lever into 'D' and going (IOW, the same way everybody else with AT cars drives them most of the time).

I didn't realize you were one of those people.

I have owned an 88, 01, 08, 13, Mustang GT all manual and a 95 RX7 manual. The Auto mustang I have now is my first one. I bought it simply to have something different.

Its a lot of fun for drag racing. The 10 spd auto that is in the ZL1 tore up the ring in the video I saw, so I would say its definitely worth checking it out. Its also faster than your car. As is the auto in my 15. Nice try though.

Disagree. I've had both manual and automatic Mustangs over the years and these new autos are much more fun than any manual car I've ever owned.;)

Faster has nothing to do with fun factor, but to each their own. Whatever makes you sleep better at night.

I grew up in a generation where you got made fun of if you drove an automatic sports car and after driving both, I'll pick the manual all day long for the control over the car.

Anyway, this is turning into the typical auto vs manual BS so back on topic.

3.73 is fine for daily driving. I had 3.73's in my 02' Camaro SS which just resulted in shorter shifting and more shifts. I personally enjoyed it and the exhaust note is heavenly between all the gears.

I drove a manual 3.55 non-PP car and then drove my PP car. To me it was a night and day difference with the 3.73s. The tighter suspension may have had a hand in that too, and I'm not sure if the ECUs are tuned differently. To be fair I had a carload of people when I test drove the 3.55 car. Punched it on the highway and thought, "that's it?" First gear lasted longer which was nice but I didn't care for the tradeoff.

I test drove both back to back. I left the lot with 3.73. It's just more fun. Nothing wrong with the 3.55 gearing at all. Each have their own place. If you like to shift and enjoy the car, go with the 3.73 IMHO.

Umm yea adding that much weight will make a difference.

Why are you short shifting?

Shifting at 7000, with the same tires (because the stock rears don't last long). In second (for aurocross) and 4th (for the drag strip), you get:
3.31 - 70mph - 129mph
3.55 - 65 - 120
3.73 - 62 - 114

For autocross, 3 mph can probably save you from a lot of shifting.

Remember ro consider your tire aize, as for aurocross or road course work, most of your tire choices will be shorter than stock, making your gearing shorter as well.
I am not short shifting, I just picked 6500 as a consistent rpm between them that is achievable in stock form and also you won't be able to hit 7k without a tune. The main takeaway from my post is stock 3.55 nonPP and 3.73 in a PP are practically equivalent give the tire deltas. So this whole PP with 3.73 is faster drag racing or causes to much shifting daily driving stock for stock is nonsense in my opinion. Once you start modding however gear selection will depend on your end goal for the car. I would be willing to say that stock for stock the PP should outrun the non PP in autocross, if not then Ford really missed the mark in their efforts to make the PP more track capable.
