My second AC compressor, a Motorcraft part from RockAuto, is now screaming like crazy. Same symptoms at the original compressor. Whine line crazy only when on, works like a champ (cold air). This one didn’t make it a year. Gonna check with RA and see if there’s any warranty on it.

If not, RA lists a few other brands besides Motorcraft at a fraction of the price. Thinking about going that route next time. Thoughts on these other brands? I mean shit, can’t be any worse!

Did you flush the system when you changed compressors?

I did not. And yes, after I posted this thread it occurred to me the possibilities. When I pulled the old compressor, the oil was very clean and free of contaminate. So, I made the choice I made. Valid.

Was it a remanufactured or rebuilt unit? If the oil is clean its not necessary. I do lots of residential and commercial hvac and I don’t flush the systems unless there dirty or I’m changing gas’s.

I'm no A/C expert, I was a line mechanic for many years, everytime I had a compressor go out there was some trash in the lines.

My car is at Alan Vigil Ford in Morrow, Georgia right now getting the compressor swapped out. Groaned like an old dog, but still blew cold air. Noise became more frequent, so as opposed to waiting to see if/when it would go, I took it in to get diagnosed and fixed. I am the second owner of the car, and I believe that the first owner had either the EVAP core or compressor fixed in the first 5,000 miles before I purchased it in June 2017 with just over 5,800 miles.

Bro, on a similar but separate topic…

A year ago or so when I was shopping for a compressor, the Ford was was $3XX. A bit later when I went back and bought it, it had gone up to just over $4XX. Fast forward to this shopping trip (when I started this thread), it was $530 or thereabouts. That’s why I asked about other brands. I just went back to RockAuto shopping around and the dang Ford compressor is now $603. Why in the world does that stupid thing keep creeping up? The other brands have stayed the same price. I’m going the other route. That’s just stupid.

AND, RockAuto shows a different compressor for the 5.2 vs 5.0 (kinda surprised by that), which is naturally half the price.

Your compressor and my wife have some similarities.

Doesn't the price also keep going up on those? :)

Wasn't aware of a different version for 5.2. I'd be curious to see a side by side.

@stanglife No, I have not noticed the price on the other brands going up. Well, I’ll say not to the level of sticker shock like the Ford unit. And still less than half the price.

I've used my a/c a total of 4 times and the compressor already thinks it's a supercharger.

Car is at the dealer right now for the first time with a paper stuck on the dash that reads "PLEASE DO NOT REV ENGINE ABOVE 3k IF TEMP UNDER 180"

Fingers crossed.

The A/C compressors and EVAP cores were known to be manufactured very poorly. Instead of fixing them they just change the company that provided the part for the 18+ GT and EBs. So not surprising that your second one blew. I had the same issue with my 16. You just get lucky if you get a compressor that work properly! Sorry!

Dealer just called me back and said...get this..."the engine whining from the a/c goes away when you open the 2 center vents in the dash, so everything's working fine." Now i have to go bang heads.

While I was price shopping, I decided to look at the regular mustang parts. According to RockAuto listings, the mustang had a different part from the 350; not the same compressor and not interchangeable I assume. It was much cheaper too.
