Working on my GT350 and they just had to recharge the compressor with Freeon and now it’s making this noise. Any ideas what’s causing this? I don’t temper it making this noise before it was worked on.

I know my AC compressor made loud noise and needed to be replaced last year. This year the AC started making loud noise again and then blew hot air. The high pressure line cracked, currently waiting for the new part.

Mine has been making that noise and whining like a banshee for the last two years. I have my ESP until 2027 so let's see what happens.

Hard to say without actually being able to see/diagnose in person. It could be the field coil/clutch assembly going bad.

There's been a few threads on this site over the years with the S550 A/C compressor clutch or field coil assembly coming apart.

Here's some A/C field coil/compressor clutch tech posts to assist with your repair effort. Definitely stop driving because if the clutch is already damaged last thing you want is to have it come totally apart at speed, because you’ll end up damaging more in the engine bay.

This thread was from another M6G Member where the failure turned out to be the A/C field coil/clutch head:
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/what-is-this-passenger-side-lower-main-pulley-ac.121072/

This thread has the info from the Ford shop manual for how to remove the clutch assembly/field coil:
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...tentially-a-c-compressor.129712/#post-2686995

There is also this thread which discusses how to remove the A/C stretch belt (and an available Lisle tool to do it too):

mine has been whining recently and more recently started blowing hot on the way back from my last road trip. I may bring it in after a couple months since my extended warranty is good till 2030 or 75k miles.

$1088 for just the compressor? RockAuto has the motorcraft compressor, stated as compatible for the GT350, for $475. You might cross-reference the Ford OEM part to the Motorcraft part to see if you can save $600. Maybe the $1088 includes lines, dryer, condenser, etc.?

MOTORCRAFT YCC551: Alternate Inventory Numbers: FR3Z19703L

More Information for MOTORCRAFT YCC551 (rockauto.com)

Edited: Sorry, I see you're in Canada. Don't know if that affects pricing or availability from RockAuto.

Yeah, for swapping out the compressor you will also need to replace the one-time use studs that hold the compressor to the engine block, probably a new stretch belt, I'd replace the drier (accumulator), the expansion valve, you'll need compressor oil, refrigerant, and a vacuum pump to pull a vacuum/check for leaks when it is all back together before charging it. I would also replace the o-rings on the high/low pressure lines where they connect to the compressor and the o-rings at connections to the expansion valve. Might also be a good idea to replace the service valves in the low/high pressure lines.

My prior comment was that I was surprised at the quoted cost when you could get an OEM compressor from Rock Auto for much less (almost half when converting from USD to CAD).

If you think the compressor was mechanically failing internally, I would also flush the system using an A/C flush gun and appropriate solvent. No sense installing a new compressor to just have it eat the old bits floating around in the system. Some people even replace the condenser when replacing a compressor since passages are small and can hold onto debris. I haven't had much luck with non-OEM condensers or low/high-pressure lines on other A/C fixes, just FYI.

Note that I'm not an A/C tech or anything, so my advice is worth as much as you paid for it (nothing).

I just got my AC clutch off over the weekend and found that the bearing was definitely shot. My car was wailing, screeching, howling.... Of course the bearing stuck on the compressor when I removed the pulley (started another thread for that just today). Nothing is easy.
