Why even be concerned about being as fast as some other car? About driving around a badass 800hp beast? That's where the fun is at.

Truth. Totally worth what he is asking
Yeah that thing is 100% worth it! THIS IS THE WAY THE SHELBY SUPERSNAKE SHOULD BE!! Built up internals and drivetrain.

Hey everyone. I need some knowledge please! Getting back into a Mach 1, this time automatic, which I’m torn on because I love rowing those gears but hey, automatic is faster.

Anyway, I’m definitely going to turbo the Mach. My goals..high 800whp, as little lag as possible, reliable for years to come and be able consistently run top end with the likes of say McLaren 720s or higher. i.e run 145 or higher in a quarter mile span.

Soooo do I go single or twin? If twin, I’m looking at Hellions’ kits. Is there any difference between sleeper kits or top mount kits? I was swaying towards top mount. 62, 64, 68 or from what I saw others mention 55mm BB turbo?

At the power level I'm thinking do I need to upgrade any other part of the car besides fuel? I don’t plan on launching out the whole, this will be my daily so any races will be rolling.

I’m hoping 25/30k is enough to get it all done. FYI I also want mild cams, and H-Pipe with Flowmasters for that old school sounds or at least as close as possible.

Please let me know your thoughts. Hungry for opinions

Thxs!
This thread has spiraled away from your original question, so I will answer it now.

800hp is too much for 93 pump gas, even with twin turbos. With turbos on the 5.0, the limit is really 700, but even that is pushing it.

I would recommend the Hellion sleeper kit with either the 62mm turbos or the smaller 58mm turbos. Upgrade to the 4-1 header to help with back pressure. Look to Lund Racing for tuning and Fore Innovations for a fuel system. Above 800ish whp, you ill need a 10r80 build to make it "last". If you plan on beating the car off a two-step, antilag, or the rev limiter then I would suggest oil pump gears and a crank sprocket, but otherwise boost and fuel is all you need!

No one.

But in the real world, a 720s will still be faster in a straight line.

And keep in mind, a Mach 1 with the Handling Package with pull almost as much G in a corner, and stop pretty much just as hard & fast. But you'll have to throw that all away to accelerate almost as fast.

It's just a total waste. Mustangs aren't straight-line performance cars. Start with one that is, one that has physics on it's side. Honestly, the OP would be vastly better served getting a used Z51 C8, rather than dropping the same coin on a 2023 M1 and tens of thousands of dollars in mods.

Couldn't disagree more. If there is ANYTHING a boosted s550 should be able to compete with a 720s in, it's straight line performance. No problem.

Shit, my car traps 147 on 12 psi. I have changed 0 suspension parts, still has AC and heat, great sound system. I promise you it's a better grocery getter and daily driver than a 720s.

What are these physics you keep talking about?

The front engine, front-mounted transmission, rear drive configuration is inherently traction limited. Achieving ETs quicker than ~10.8 seconds requires a rear wheel/tire combination that is not capable of high performance cornering. It gets even worse if you add skinnies up front which further degrade cornering and now also braking performance.

Contrast this with mid and rear engine cars, or at least front engine with the transmission mounted in the rear, which all offer much better inherent traction. Especially once AWD is included. Such cars cost a lot more but offer the ability to launch hard and also corner and brake at a high level.

Mustangs and Camaros can either launch hard or turn well, but not both. Forces you to choose.

Great sound system? Now we know you are confused. The sound system in these cars are trash, regardless of trim.

Damn it man, you had to go and ruin it... 😀

I bet my 350hp Audi quattro v8 could trap 145.

Eventually

Why not just slap a bigger turbo on the EcoBoost? Or better yet just buy a f150 Lighting. Way faster.

I had the same thought process as OP, no drag racing from a dig, only roll races to hopefully have some longevity. I supercharged her with supporting mods, original motor, factory internals (minus forged OPG + CS), dyno’d low 800 whp on pump 93. Install done at 16k miles and currently sitting at 67k miles if I’m not mistaken.

Be smart with how often you take her to redline. I can’t remember the last time I went to 8500, usually don’t need to. Warm her up before you leave the driveway every single time, I don’t care how much of a rush you’re in. Keep the oil tip-top, I check every week. Give her a bath often to show her you care, and that should net you a nice weekend warrior.

Where did the OP say he wanted a car to compete will all aspects of a 720S? He said he wants to be able to run top end with the likes of a 720S or trap 145mph. A twin turbo Coyote on E85 is capable of doing that.

I don't think anyone expects a Mustang to be in the same super car realm as a 720S as far as all around performance is concerned.
Thank you. All I want is to be able to be driving it on a daily basis and run it whenever a car like that or similar, like the likes of a aventador or f8 tributo pull next to me and win. Dig races on the street isn’t what I’m looking for just the occasional roll races from say 50/60 to 150.
