I am considering a new old-stock 2023 Mach 1 (yes, they are still to be found on dealer lots) with the handling package.

I saw a YouTube review of the Mach 1, and the owner said the tires had a short life.

Is this inherent to the Mach 1 and/or the handling package? Or was it the way he had the camber set up? Or the stock tires themselves (i.e. soft compound)?

It's throttle modulation and alignment along with tire choice....I don't get more than 8000 miles from any tire on my measly Ecoboost...and that's rotating every 3000 when change oil.

If I had M1 I'd get 2000 on rears at most because I like punching it all the time, braking and cornering hard in cut and thrust urban endless traffic lights driving.

I suspect the car has the factory, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires? If so, yes, they have a short life.

The sticky, Summer tire, while complimentary to the car and the package, are best suited to the track. Options:

1. Purchase the car and keep the tires. While driving on the street, the car will be prone to tramlining. The car will throw small rocks and debris against the body panels more than a less tacky compound. With the short life of the tire, swap to something more street-friendly once they've worn out. Be mindful of the temps for driving and storage; these are Summer-only tires

2. Purchase the car, swap the tires, maybe the rims. I replaced the tires and rims the day I brought the car home. In keeping the car long-term, having a pristine set of originals is part of the plan; they went into storage. Swapping also saved me 40 lbs / 18 kgs of unsprung weight, with a tire I can use year-round.

2A. Save tires for the track. The Cup2s are great tires. They can continue to be enjoyed as part of a track set.

2B. Sell the tires. You can post a thread and offer the tires for sale in the sub forums.

Given what you know now, you might use that as leverage to get a further discount. These are great cars. If you found one new you like, given the time of year and with '25s available for order, you could get it at a very good price.

As to any concerns of alignment, as part of the factory warranty, you are allowed one free alignment within the first 12 months of ownership. There are recommended street and track settings in the Owner's Supplement (attached).

Good Luck. :like:. If you buy the car, please post pics.

I agree with the above. The factory HP tires are Cup 2's and they are horrid on the street. Their manners are terrible, they tramline really bad, throw debris up on the paint work, and have very little to no tread even new so wet traction is nonexistent, and they last 5k miles, maybe 6-7k if you are lucky... BUT, on track they are phenomenal... Mine had a set on it when I bought it, had less than 5k miles and they were nearing end of life and I got rid of them as soon as humanly possible. Have the Pilot Sport 4s and they drive much better and still give excellent traction.

I would put PS4s or Conti ECS2 on the stock rims, and then setup a square set of track rims with your Cup2s. Once a pair of Cup2s wears out on track I would continue running identical tires (305 or 315) and rotate them. Will require long studs, open lugs and spacers of course.

For no track use, I'd sell the Cup2s. Note you can still do a "light" track day on your summer tires.

The HP cars come with Cup 2's on them. Great tire if you're going to track it, but a nightmare on the street due to tramlining! I'd pretty much tell the dealer that the tires are flat spotted and the compound is worthless from sitting on the lots since 22-23. Make them put new street tires on it!

I get new sport cup 2s every year, fronts go before rears. Unlike the others I am unwilling to downgrade my tires for the street. Tramlining gives it extra character and I can go into corners at high speed without worrying about sliding off the road or hearing my tires squeal.
