Okay here she goes… car sat for a year before install, however I did run 2-3 tanks of Sunoco 93 through it before I started install. Did the install using CJ pony parts video and the provided instructions… really had zero issues during installation, everything seemed fairly straightforward.
-I did (stupidly) skip the plugs initially because of no good reason.
Tuner sent me a good safe tune that should have gotten the ball rolling. Car wouldn’t start. Finally get the car running and it won’t idle… finally get it idling great and then once it got to operating temp (170+) it started idle surging horribly. Tuner checked logs and both o2s were showing incredibly lean…
We saw my fuel pressure wasn’t great so I replaced the stock pump with another oem pump.
That’s when I told the tuner I forgot to swap the plugs. After an earful from him I replaced them with the NGK iridium’s that were recommended and gapped to his specifications. Car started and ran beautifully… until it hit operating temp, then horrible readings on o2s and horrible surging. Replaced both upstream o2 sensors with OEM Ford o2’s and I am still getting the same issue with rough idle and surging.
I figure the surging is the car trying to get acceptable readings at the O2s since it’s showing lean. I am also figuring it’s an o2 issue because it runs great below operating temp at idle.
Just kinda stumped and needing to vent about it I guess and ping it off you all. Gonna be running a smoke test this weekend to see if there’s a vacuum leak or even a cracked intake or something. Also gonna check all fuses and connectors again… super frustrating because the car ran flawlessly even after sitting for a year. Any help is appreciated.
