2018 Oil Sump

Has anyone compared the internals of the 2018 composite sump vs the 2017 stamped steel ones?
At $110 if the internals have been improved for better windage and oil control, and the higher oil volume (Is it 10 quarts?) i'm considering it as a cheap improvement to the oiling system of the mustang.
Are they a direct swap?

Yeah, but i wouldn't take that as a confirmation of fitment. An educated guess would say it would, but just looking to see if anyone can confirm.

Also, i'm more interested in knowing if there are any internal changes / improvements over the stamped steel ones.

Why not ? It's the same pick up tube, and the mounting of the oil pan hasn't changed. Not to mention the Ford performance pan fits 11-20 5.0. So I would call that myth confirmed.

IMO if you're going to go through all that work to upgrade the pan, I'd go with the GT500 kit.

That definitely has better baffling, stronger construction, even more capacity for not much more when considering you're also getting a beefier pump and gear.

Because i wasn't planning on replacing the pump. I just wanted to see if the 2018 pan was better an worth the upgrade for a relatively small expense. The 2018 pan is $120, and the GT500 setup is just over $800. Its a fairly large difference. If i was going the full upgrade route then i would agree, makes total sense. But i will only put the 2018 pan in if there's an improvement over the 2017 because its relatively cheap.

Plus, its heavy. 19 lbs apparently!

You will be replacing the pump. 2108 has pickup as part of the pan, wont fit prior pumps. Other than increased capacity, its not worth it. Just put a Moroso pan on it.
