Were they not able to replace the engine in a specific amount of time?
To put it bluntly I've made 3 car payments on a car sitting on the dealerships lift, and last time I saw it (a few weeks ago, collecting my things from it..) it was still in a million pieces, no engine in site.

Tip of the ice berg man. They've dropped the ball so many times. I'm embarrassed to even go into detail..

Why be embarrassed??!!?? Spill the beans here, that’s the purpose of this forum and so others can offer input.

Are you going through a Buy Back, Refund or Lemon process?

I feel that pain. I have been without my car since march 3rd. Dragging their feet is an understatement. Its absolutely insane how hard it is to get these guys to get something simple done.

I agree. LOT of VERY helpful people here. Cobra Jet has helped me through my buyback process as he has gone through it, and I can honestly say that I would help someone else out as much as I can because I am at the tail end of the process myself.

Patience gets thrown out the window in pretty much every circumstance that I have heard of. My patience is in the negative percentages right now..

You've help me a lot as well as Cobra Jet! I'm just starting down this path and going straight to BBB and pursuing a buyback. I've gotten nowhere in trying to work directly with Ford.

it's a buy back, but it's essentially the lemon law process and guided by the same law per state. they just invoked it through their own processs.

it's just embarrassing to think about the amount of screw ups I've encountered along the way, the number of phone calls required to get someone on the line, the miscommunications and missed deadlines.. I probably have 20+ hours of phone call time wrapped into this. I can't imagine how many separate phone calls / attempted phone calls I've had to make to babysit this process. it's been tedious and stressful.

my favorite of many screw ups was when my first case handler mistagged my case as a car swap instead of a refund, then went rogue for two weeks.. couldn't get ahold of anyone. turns out she no longer worked for the company and no one had been reassigned my case. that little screw up caused a chain of other screw ups and has been a PITA ..

either way - I think I am at the tail end of the process here and almost done. just waiting for paperwork that has been misdelivered or not delivered several times. still waiting for some paperwork that was reportedly sent to my home address half a dozen times but they are unwilling and unable to give me a tracking number on it to prove that, and the dealership is awaiting the final buyback packet for me to sign .. yet today they had a refund check for me anyways for the extra amount owed to me after paying off my loan? .. lol. the myfordhelp process informed to go to the dealer to sign the paperwork that wasn't there.. sigh.

I have many stories about this process. It takes me to a dark place. I just want to be done :). sounds like the engine replacement just finished, just in time for me to sign the paperwork and get out of here.

It is what it is, and you gotta do what you gotta do. What Ford actually did throughout this entire process is lose a good customer. The level of incompetence throughout this fiasco is incomprehensible. If i were the op i’d file a civil suit against Ford to make sure no one else has to go through what he went through..

Not disagreeing with you and I agree, the process sucks. I just can’t believe there are so many lately. It’s scary that quality control is so bad that Ford is just buying cars back.

Yes. Agreed. Mistakes happen, cars come out with flaws. No problem there, I was unlucky. This was my second brand new mustang purchase however and likely my last Ford purchase in general, just due to how this was handled. If they would have made an effort to treat me well and make it right early on I'd probably have purchased a GT350, or accepted a car swap for another GT or something. I really did like the car, just terrified of the idea of going through something like this again. Life is too short to lose several months of enjoyment for something I work so hard for.

What about the sales tax paid on the vehicle? Here in NY that would be another $2500-$3500. Just curious if they are refunding money.

It varies by lemon law for your state. For mine , they do pay sales tax and interest, minus a mileage use charge. I was 2400ish miles and was charged 900ish for it.

Where I really lost out is my next car didn't have a trade in benefit, costing me thousands more in taxes than I'd have to pay otherwise. They also won't refund anything towards the paint protection and opticoat I purchased.

Seems like the 2018 update of the S550 is having mostly engine issues. No surprise since the engine is basically a totally new design.
