What you fail to realize is that the majority of components on the Mazda 3 are sourced from Ford. If you tear it apart, you'll find that almost all mechanical components will say FoMoCo. So you can take your theory about your Mazda 3 being "more durable" and throw it right out the window.
Actually, it appears to be the other way around- Ford uses Mazda designed engines.

I know most parts had FOMOCO on them. Ford does use Duratec engines. the 3.7L that is used in v6 mustangs is the same engine in CX-9s

The block on the 2.5 Mazda L engine is the same as the Ecoboost

I thought 2.3L speed 3 block is pretty much the same as the ecoboost.
Actually they are basically the same engine except the rods and turbo. But all the blocks are based on the Mazda L.

Edit: after some additional research, only the blocks are the same between the Ford Ecoboost and Mazda 2.3 DISI, Crank, Pistons, rods, heads, injectors and turbos as well as ancillaries are all different and better/stronger on the Ecoboost.

Honestly if I knew that I might have went with a Ecoboost.

nothing wrong with that V6. Any engine that gets to running on 2 quarts of oil is in no-man's land.
Didnt mean to say anything bad towards the v6, it sounds much better and have better low end torque than the eco.

Engine burned oil since 1st day, the mechanic that worked on my car said it was a bad engine. He didnt even use any pieces from it. The coolant hose / coolant metal housings were also bad.

Well I am supposed to get the car back this week. The longblock was in on New year's day, it is just so generic that he is doing some assembling of components and waiting on a few gaskets. He also is installing the roush CAI back on with BBK ceramic headers, steeda clutch line and oil catch can.

I cant wait to get the car back but it sucks that not too long after I get the car back I have to yet again submit it for body shop to get the misalligned panels fixed.

The driver door seems to sunk in and a 1/d inch difference to the front left quarter where as the passenger side is straight.

It is just so noticeable. But oh well... out of shitty rental soon enough :clap2:

I thought you said oil was leaking out from the oil filter? That's way different than burning oil

Coolant shouldn't be that big of deal. Even if you ran the engine low on coolant, it should just turn on the CEL light and go into limp mode and not self-destruct

it was a combination of things. 1st Oil change oil came up short and there was a leak in filter.

The mechanic took the engine apart when I brought i in and still it again was short on oil with no leaks.

I mean yes I should have checked my oil every 200 miles but how many of us really do it? I didnt expect this problem from a brand new car, specially when i never pushed it above 2k before it heated up properly.

Paul I think you would have been happier if I paid for the engine myself because i am a dumba$$ that didnt check his oil ever day...

:frusty: Do u work for ford?

I wish I worked for Ford, then I would be making the big bucks.

I am not blaming you for oil. My last (very old) car would burn / leak oil, and I was in the habit of checking it at the 1500 mile mark and feeding it a quart of oil. But if it was a new car, oil would totally be off the radar.

I just remember you saying that after 1st oil change, that the engine only had two quarts of oil in it. And that it was leaking from the oil filter. And if that was the case, then all bets are off. That's very low on oil.

So after that you took the car in again, and again it was low on oil? No oil filter leak this time? It's hard to imagine the car burning through that much oil without it setting off a CEL, or generating visible smoke.

I can understand how someone should trust that a new car shouldn't burn oil, but on every new vehicle I've ever owned, I check the oil a lot (every 200~300 miles) when it's new so I can confirm that all is well. Once I see it's not using much oil, then I cut back on the checking. I also poke around under the hood and below the car a lot to look for any leaks or other things that might look abnormal.

9 pages of thread, and I really don't have an idea on what happened to that V6. It's hard to know if this is manufacturer defect, or if the dealership slopped an oil change before selling you the car, and didn't tighten the filter all the way, allowing the oil to slowly drain out.

If the former, and the engine is burning oil, that's a high burn rate not to have any visible symptoms. No CEL, no tail pipe smoke, no weird smell, etc.

If the latter, I would assume you have oil spots in your driveway, or wherever you park.

Well not much oil came out when the mechanic took it apart and at this stage, there was no leak.

He did however tear it up after i drove it 3-4 days after initial short block order because dealer let me have the car with knocking. At this point it was smoking a lot.

It is weird because it had a weird slosh sound when I would hit the gas pedal or rev up. This started happening with the knocking sound so I dont know what it can be.

Mechanic said other than engine everything is perfect, everything was really clean inside out.

I am hoping for the best.

I park at the same everyday in my driveway, i parked in the garage too sometimes but doesnt fit an X5 and the mustang side by side, 2 fat cars.

No visible oil.

I did have periodically a peanut oil like smell inside and the inside of the windshield would fog up and get gummy which was like coolant burning.

And also a lot of near death stalls in red lights for no apparent reason.

I am either going to learn every thing about this car and take care of it or get rid of it in the next 1-2 years. I am buying a house with a garage that can host work I do to the car but there are a list of lingering problems about this car.

Mine is one of the 1st productions and i guess there are some QC problems.
