even with the tug boat challenger having 707hp,i doubt it will out perform the GT500 thats out now.

+1 also I was wondering if the mustang GT block can handle 700 hp, and when the after market dual clutch be available?I wonder if stock 15' gt diff / tranny can handle 700hp

I had a feeling that the 8 speed auto was gonna be faster than the GT500. I think the manual should be about even.
You can have a blower put on with a power train warranty.Im adding a blower to my S550 but even though I know I can get similar power and or times as this Hellcat beast, I will be living without a warranty and peace of mind.
Sure must be nice to buy a 10 second car with AC and a warranty.
The GT500 is not designed as a one trick pony like the Hellcat. The GT500 is intended to be a more versatile car, which results in some compromise of its drag racing capabilities.Ford better have an auto in the next GT500. I have seen it too many times. Stock the manuals with a good driver are faster, but once you have some serious power added the auto seems to always win.
True about the powertrain warranty, but the tune with the warranty sucks. You are leaving alot of power on the table. With last years FRPP you could only get the warranty with the 525hp package. Go up to the 624 and your outta luck. We will see about the new cars and blowers what they will warranty powerwise. You can have a blower put on with a power train warranty.

As far as the tranny specifically, an auto may happen some day due to the (sadly) declining demand for manuals, but who knows when it might be.
I hope I'm wrong, but it's entirely possible the Mustang will never exceed the Hellcat's quarter mile performance in stock form. There has to be a line drawn somewhere in this arms race. We can't expect 9 second street cars straight from the factory (at least financially attainable ones). Ever constrictive government regulations will soon dictate that other aspects of performance will have to be the focus, at least until we're all running around with electric motors in our performance cars, spawning a whole new, and very different, competitive era. We may very well be at or very near the pinnacle of performance for factory combustion engine only cars, unfortunately. Savor these times... they may not last much longer.
Yeah, you might want to check this out: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php/2015-5-0-1513.htmlTrue about the powertrain warranty, but the tune with the warranty sucks. Ive heard the same about Roush and Whipple having soft tunes for their warrantied blowers too.
Just because their 600RWHP car runs mid-11s does not mean it is optimized for drag racing by any means. Sure it does a very respectable job of it, but the car is also engineered to handle. Compromises are made to accomplish that. They could easily squeeze better E/Ts out of the car if they were willing to sacrifice other aspects of its performance. The Hellcat does not need to pretend to be anything but a pure straight line burner. A one dimensional car is easier to optimize for its intended task. And come on. The GT500 compromised on straight line? Until the Hellcat came out everyone was wowed by a mid 11 sec. car straight from the showroom floor. It makes 600rwhp and has a SRA. IMO there was no compromise on its straight line performance.
Last time I checked, the Boss 302, a car purpose built for the twisties, has a SRA as well. Hmmm... ;)SRA screams straight line. IMO they compromised on the twisties since they could of put in an IRS like the old Cobras.

i was dead set on the mustang, now dodge wow. Idk anymore... lack of information from ford, i might have have to get the new challenger. now i am torn.
Honestly i was set on mustang, and just want a v-8 Daily driver. But i do like the new looks of the challenger. But the 5.7 hemi is only 375 hp, but the srt8 is about 475. Dodge released all their information just at the right time to have me rethinking what i want.If you were looking for a 70+k drag car, then the mustang never stood a chance...not for the new model year and probably not for at least 2 or 3 at that. I agree they could hurry up an release the final engine specs already though...gotta be soon.
Also, not to knock the hellcat, cause it is an amazing sounding/looking/performing beast, but I think it will be the last harah for this body design...new mustang, new camaro, new challenger has been talked about for a while, only a matter of time. That being said, it's going out with a hell of a bang!
When does this beast go on sale. Is there an announced price?
