19 vs 20 inch wheels

I recently bought a set of square 19x11 52 Apex VS5RS forged wheels in the last group buy - but havent gotten around to mounting them yet. They just opened up a new group buy for the 20 inch VS5RS which I was originally interested in.

Ignoring the fact that I already have the 19s - looking at TireRack we dont have too many options for either 295/35 (13 options) and 305/35 (3 options). Changing to 305/30 R19 as we all know know gives us a lot more options (31). However, jumping up to 305/30/R20 gives us even more options (51).

295 & 305/35 R19 seem to be an "off" and rare size - and Michelin isnt even offering a PS4S in 305/35 - does it make sense to go up to 20 for the better offering - which also potentially means better deals.

Quite a few of the Signature Wheel people seem to go with 20s, and the 20s do look great on the 350.

Apex just used my car this week to test out the fitment of their new 20" offerings and take some pictures (don't have those yet). I too bought the 19x11 square setup from them earlier in the year. Have been running them for the last few months and am really happy with them. The weight savings was ~10lbs per corner. Loved the look of the 20" wheel - shocking how much bigger 1" makes them appear on the car. The thing I would check is what width (and offset) they are offering for the rears. They mounted 11.5 inch wheels on the back my car and they had some significant poke. Way more than I would be happy with. I didn't get into a big discussion on what the options would be so maybe there is a more suitable option being made available.

Another thought, you would not want to run a 35 series tire on a 20" wheel. That would be reaaallyyy tall (dia). Going to a 30 series on a 20" wheel will keep you in the same ball game as 35's on a 19", if that's your goal.

Yeah - 19s on 35 sidewall, 20s on 30 sidewall of course.

Id go with 20x11 52 square - but this is from the angle: Tire availability and selection now and the future. Certainly looks like 305/35 R19 isnt a size that many tire manufacturers are interested in (or 295/35 R19 for that matter) - whereas it gets a lot better in 305/30 R20....

In comparison the PS4s in 305/30/20 is 100$ more expensive than the 305/30/19 on TireRack , but there are a lot more options in the 20 range...

Do you have any pictures that you could share with regards to the poke you are talking about in the rear?

Thanks for posting this. Same car, same location, same angle. Makes seeing how much better 20” look so easy. My mind is made up for once I have $7500 to dump into new wheels and tires: 20” 30 series.

So many more tire options in correct overall diameter 20" tires. 295/30/20, 305/30/20, and 315/30/20. I have the Ford Performance labeled PS4S GT500 spec tires on lightweight 20" wheels in custom offsets (20x11 ET24 front, 20x11.5 ET61 rear for flush fit instead of the OE ET56 poke) on my 350R.

20 for looks, 19 for performance, maybe even 18 if you’re really about track…

I actually think 19s look better with more tire sidewall. Has more of a classic muscle car look. But with luxury or exotic cars its a different story.
