Hey all

I hope you can help, tonight I just had a weird experience which I wondered, is it normal behaviour.

So car was cold, I started up and sat for a minute and pulled away (all in normal drive). Revs were high as it was still on choke and warming up.

Just about a minute into dthe drive I get to an almost 180° bend in the road. When you approach, it is up hill and after the apex of the turn, it is downhill.

Car was reporting 3rd gear, and I lifted off the gas to coast around the tight apex and then go downhill. But when I lifted off the accelerator turned at the apex the car didn't slow, it sped up, and the revs increased drastically. Like I was on the accelerator!

It caught me off guard as it was too fast for the tight bend to be speeding up so had to adjust quickly.

Why would the car not change down when I lifted off going uphill and the car slowed due to gravity? Why not change to 2nd or even 1st? Instead it stayed in 3rd and sped up itself. Was the cold just to blame / normal behaviour when cold? Does this happen to others?

Cheers for any thoughts. :)

Was this on the way home from the pub?

Just kidding.

Are you sure you didn't maybe edge the throttle with your foot in the turn?

I do know the 1080R has mechanical solenoids. I have heard they need warming up to operate well. Being you were off on a cold start, that's the only thing I can think of.

Haha whilst also murmuring to myself why has the steering wheel moved sides. Sadly no pub visit involved.

Well, I feel like I definitely didn't touch it but I can't say for sure. I will try it again if I get a chance as the next few days are cold again.

I did wonder if the odd camber of the curve plus the cold engine state perhaps confused the ECM and TCM? It didn't know whether to speed up or slow down kinda situation.

Thanks.

When my car is cold (first start-up) and in Sport Mode+, I had the transmission not want to leave 1st gear, but when I applied the brakes, it sped up and shifted into 2nd for some reason. That's happened a few times. Now, I take off in Normal mode until the car is fully warmed up. I never had what you described happen when it was in Normal drive mode though.

Could be. I am still learning the traits of the 1080R.

Not to be a wiseguy, but any chance the floormat or something else got caught on the pedal? I've had it happen in an older mustang.

Mine used to do this (or atleast feel like its in neutral with revs going up) if I put it in sport mode before the trans was warmed up. I leave mine in normal until the car is warm and it doesnt do this anymore.

Same here. I wait until warm before switching to track and getting on the tranny.

I'll double check - it is clipped in place but I'll make sure it isn't catching. The rest of the journey was OK so I'm thinking probably not. But good question.

Thanks - I never use Sport mode or the likes. Drive is fine for me. I also don't want the transmission adapting again after having it sorted by the dealership as the gear changes are lovely now. :)

If you have the Sport, Track, and Drag modes and not using them, you are missing out on the fun.

Still getting used to it really. Coming from an AMG with 4matic I'm still feeling my way with RWD. :)

Find a open road with no curbs or ditches and go full "Advance Trac off" to have some real fun.
