At what point do you consider replacing your current Mustang with another one?

I find the comments interesting. I’m sure you won’t about mine but maybe some of you will. I’m old enough to at least ur father if not grandfather. I’ve owned a Mustang since 1971, the year I turned 16. Grew up in a Ford home. Dad sold Fords. So in 1971 I bought a 1964.5 a D-code coupe 4 speed, rally pack and console. Motor is now a 331. That’s about all I did to it besides the wheels and tire I’ve done. Now I’ve own a 69 Mach 1 FE powered, totaled in an accident. Had a GT vert in 04, yes a terminator. I bought sight unseen a 12 KB Boss In 14. Just sold it this spring and replaced it with a 14 GT 500 in Ruby Red. I’ve always had multiple cars bc in Wisconsin you don’t drive a Mustang in the winter. So 55 years of owning Mustangs but my favorite will always be the first. It was sold new by dad.

So, I am a car guy. I really like American performance vehicles.

Since 2018, I have had 3 Mustangs and for a brief period owned a Dodge Charger Scat Pack. I usually get the itch to try something different every 2 years or so. I currently own a '22 Mach 1 HP and thoroughly enjoy it. I have had it for a couple of years which is right about the point in time that I start looking around. But at this point nothing is really moving the needle for me. The Mach is pretty special. There is no new Ford manufactured GT350 or GT500. No new Camaro. Not a fan of the C8 Corvette. The current Charger is not even remotely appealing. And Toyota has yet to produce a supercharged Prius. (joke, I'm joking....).

My question is; at what point to you all (if you do) start considering another Mustang or other performance vehicle? Every few years? When your current vehicle starts having mechanical issues? When the warranty runs out? When you get bored with what you own? When you find a screaming deal on another Mustang?

I’m a parent with two kids ages 7 and 10. The Mustang, as a guilty please second car, will maybe be replaced with I total it or the kids move out. It only gets about 1000 miles a year, but they are almost exclusively related to motorsports, mostly autocross events.

My s550 will be my first and last mustang that I purchase considering I do not like the direction of styling and the ipad dashes for the new mustangs.

Exactly this, I'm in the same boat. Why would I want to lose money selling my car and then start making payments on a new one that doesn't look anywhere close to a S550?

I bought my 18 PP1, 6sp vert new, before pricing got out of hand. The s650 doesn’t temp me at all, either on looks, exterior & interior, along with the added cost. I just added a Whipple SC to make it interesting, so this one will be a keeper for a long time.

I want my 2005 Mustang GT Deluxe Satin Silver with red leather interior back. In hindsight, I absolutely regret trading it in in 2007. It looked exactly like the below and I miss her dearly! :(

Awesome looking car. I liked my 2011 a lot, but I do think the IRS in the S550 is a big upgrade over the solid rear axle cars. I wasn't excited about IRS when it was first announced, but I was wrong about that change. I think S550 is great in general. Pretty much the worst flaws are the auto dimming rear view mirror and the seats but the rest is mostly an improvement. I have to admit I like the appearance from the front of the 2011 better than my current 2017.

If newer performance car, probably be a C9. New cars really suck though - Crazy expensive and not reliable due to their complication. I've seen many C8's go into limp mode because they were pushed too hard (obviously not the Z06 and ZR1).

Yeah, I totally get what you're saying.
I find myself looking at the old school muscle cars, which I've always loved, more and more. Of course it would be a Chevy.
I absolutely fall in love when I hear or see a built up Chevy with a nicely built Chevy engine and nasty cam lope. Gotta have that lope!

I was at a Cars & Coffee this morning. A Vette with a big lope creeped by us 2-3 times as he looked for parking spot. We joked that the owner purposely shows up late to those events to show it off.

I’d say modify it. The Mach 1 is my favorite Mustang so far and the one I’ve owned for the longest time. Part of me still regrets not getting a GT350/R but it was the reliability of the Voodoo that spooked me. Now the ship has sailed and good luck finding one that is reasonably priced with an extended warranty. However, I do love my Mach 1 and plan to keep it until Ford comes out with a 429 NA Mustang with a manual and a better interior.

I own a 2021 Mach 1 and wouldn't even think about selling it. Remember these Mach 1's are pretty rare, only around 15,000 sold in the 2 and a half year run. GT 350 is a special car because of the Voodoo but definitely not as rare as the Mach. I see GT350's all over the place but very very rarely do I see another Mach 1. I upgraded my interior with custom matt carbon fiber parts, feels pretty premium now.

That’s not even remotely accurate. 2021 had chassis plates numbered over 5,000 and I’m pretty sure 2022 did as well. 2023 was a shorter run so didn’t get as high as 2021 & 2022. Just look up the Mach 1 registry on this site and you’ll see some pretty high chassis plate numbers…

You are correct, meant 15,000 not 1,500. My bad but still much rarer than the GT350. I'll correct my post. Thanks for catching that.
