How does removing rear seats affect the sound etc.? I have the upgraded stereo.

I’m seriously thinking about removing the back seats since I have 4 point harnesses and people can’t sit back there. I’m wondering if I would need to put down some kind of sound insulation? Is it worth leaving that whole compartment open? Does it just destroy the sound quality along with adding a lot of unwanted sounds and noise level to the interior. Or Does just leave it bear not make much difference to The sound level, etc. in a bad way?

I took mine out. Pretty easy. And it was a little louder, but not by much. But I have the I4 so your sound milage might vary.

The base is definitely less pronounced with rear seats up. For a deeper hit, remove them like you mentioned or as an alternative, remove one or both rear deck speakers to serve as a bass escape path.

I removed one rear deck speaker in my car, which is a 5x7 opening to allow bass to filter into the cabin. I did this because I wanted to keep the rear seats. In your case, if you know no one will ever be riding in your back seat area, removing the seats would probably yield the best sound for your ears.

Another trick people use to enhance the bass note is, removing the speaker and adding more poly fil material and reinstalling the speaker. It’s cheap enough to try and see what sounds best to your ears.

The reason I want to do it is to decrease weight.
I prefer not to make the car noisier though or to really throw off the harmonics.
I’m not trying to do it to necessarily improve the sound, although if it did, that would be great.
I’m more about music quality than quantity
I’m NOT a base head.
I love the sound of my exhaust. Maybe I should clarify the car is exhaust.
I also love the sound of the Rolling Stones, Alison Krauss and Union Station, bagpipes, pipe Oregon, big band melodic jazz, Van Halen, Steve Miller, Bluegrass, Real country, vocals, acappella, barbershop, etc.
I enjoy really about anything except most rap and reggae. And I can only take screechy violence and screechy guitars for so long.

Its almost the same acoustics with the rear seats folded down as it is with them removed.

its more overall road and exhaust noise for sure.

personally I like a seat delete kit. Keeps things looking clean but drops a few lbs. noise is in a middle ground, as the seat delete does kill some of the trunk noise (ateast the OEM seat delete does)

Putting my seats down add about 10-20% in volume to my subwoofer. It also adds about 20% to exhaust volume too.

Will the lower cushion hold in place without the upper backs? If so, that might be a good compromise. The lower cushion does not weight that much and would conceal/protect the bare body and gas tank access under it.

Without the upper backs, you get a little more bass, road noise, and exhaust sound. Stuff in the trunk could slide forward in a panic stop, so be aware of that.

$400 for a RSD is what is keeping me from considering that option.

My rear seat delete should be here in a couple days, once I get it installed I can let you know how much louder it is.

I also ordered some sound deadening to put under the seat delete.

As others have said, it does get louder, even with the OEM stereo. However, what others haven't told you is the increased road noise from the rear wheel wells!

Thankfully, it's not an issue at all when you're actually jamming to music, the road noise does not interfere, even with my sensitive ears. However, the rear seats do a very good job at dampening noise that bounce & reflect from the rear wheel wells + trunk.

Call me a monster if you must, but most of my driving is done without any music playing, and the road noise does get to me, haha. I have a "seat delete kit" installed, which I'll be adding custom padding onto, in order to return some, if not more, of the dampening effect.

I removed the rear seat and fitted a deleted seat kit from EMP and fitted a dog seat cover and then a dog bed that covers the whole back. I noticed the road noise, diff noise suspension noise. It's so noisy I had everything checked out in case something was wrong but it's just noise.
Yes my Labrador travel's in style.
