Or purchase one configured the way you did?

After carefully reviewing the order sheet, and becoming maybe too obsessed with these cars, I’ve come up with two design philosophies that I’d of ordered from the factory. My current car reflects configuration 1, and configuration 2 is drastically different in a way. They are as follows:

Configuration 1: Tremec, 700A, Handling Package, Security Package, Elite Package, Recaro Leather Seats, Navigation, Black Painted Brake Calipers

Configuration 2: Tremec, 600A, Handling Package, Recaro Cloth Seats, Rear-Seat Delete, Red Painted Brake Calipers

Looking forward to your guy’s feedback!

Well we didn't have TONS of options to pick from in early 2021.

Manual vs automatic: If there's no 3rd pedal it's no fun for me.

Handling package vs no handling package: There was no question I wanted the HP, but after 8 order delays over the first 2 months I started to wonder if that was the problem. So I actually ordered a 2nd Mach with the exact same options but no HP just to make sure I got one before they shut down production for the year. My original HP car came in just a week or two before the non-HP car. I called Michelin at some point over the summer asking if the Cup 2's were on backorder and they said yep, we make a lot more money on the millions of tires for Accords and Camrys than we do on a short run of Cup 2's.

Turned out there were a LOT of problems causing production delays, many computer chip-related...

600A vs 700A Premium: I definitely wanted all the 700A goodies, like heated seats and steering wheel, etc. But this was probably another delay reason at some point because of the chips.

Recaro vs non-Recaro: I had the Recaros in my 2018 GT and effing hated them. No-brainer.

Appearance package: I didn't love the orange trim on the FJG and I didn't want to pay extra for it.

Elite package: Who listens to the radio??

Nav: That's what Carplay is for.

Rear seat delete: At the time I ordered, that wasn't available yet.

Red calipers: Painted them myself and saved the $500.

Color: We had 8 choices, of which Rapid Red (my all-time favorite color is metallic burgundy) was of course NOT one of them. Picked silver because I like how metallics look in the sun, plus it hides the rock chips.

So there you go! 7 months later and it finally arrived... here was my first peek at her in the prep bay.

I got mine used so it was a take it or leave it proposition. BUT, I do like how mine is configured. 700A, elite, Leather comfort seats (heat and mainly cool is VERY important to me), Tremec, BUT, no HP. Previous owner added all the body mods (wheels, front splitter, rear spoiler, rear fender spats) and I upgraded the suspension to make it pretty much HP level minus the adjustable camber plates. Win win in my book..

First Mach non-HP was a 21 bought used with all the goodies including the 6 spd transmission. No Recaro's. Had it for around two years. Enter second Mach bought used with HP and all the goodies but with the auto transmission. No Recaro's.

Why first Mach? At the time was eyeballing GT 350's but a little risk averse re engine reliability. Felt the Mach would be fun and I liked the look.

Why second Mach? Loved what the non-HP Mach offered after owning it for two years. But wanted more and more being the looks and handling capabilities of the HP and reliability of the Coyote engine.

Only gripe is that I have noticed slight door alignment type issues like it isn't quite closed all the way. Just sticks out a tad, kinda like some of the 2016 GT 350's reportedly had rear bumper sag / gap where it meets the body. Minor annoying if you look close enough but doesn't take away from the overall ownership experience.

There were a lot less options over here which made configuration fairly straightforward!

From memory it was colour / appearance package, transmission, seats, wheels, that's about it!
HP wasn't available to order and everything else was either standard or not available at all.
Three options were easy:

- Had to be a manual

- Had to have Recaro seats

- Y-spoke wheels as I wasn't keen on the base wheels at the time. On reflection this was a mistake... I was going to replace them with the HP wheels and the gloss metallic finish doesn't match any of the other metallic parts on the car!

We might have had the red caliper option but think that was only available with certain colours - e.g. black, silver and so on.

The colour was the difficult choice to make.
I considered FJG but a visit to the dealer in November 2020 to do initial paperwork/pay deposits etc made me change my mind.
I saw some other cars in similar grey tones out on the lot, and on a miserable rainy UK day (we have quite a few of those) FJG didn't exactly pop in those conditions...
I thought about Silver, Red or Blue, but in the end Twister Orange it was!

I then started the (expensive) process of getting the car as close to the factory US HP spec as I could.
Overall very happy with how things turned out, just need to do more miles!

When I decided to buy one they stopped accepting orders but i had already done it up in the builder and the only difference I would have liked was rear seat delete but I took care of that part as soon as I bought my 2023 Mach 1.

When I ordered my mach I was trying to build something different than everyone else. The base gt350R seemed to be the rarest. So I ordered a base hp tremec . I didn't want the Recaros. The extra money wasn't an issue. I was going to order rear seat delete but figured it would be easier to install it than find a rear seat for it that matched and it folds down. I ordered eruption green originally. I started to see it everywhere on Broncos. So changed to a Mustang only color. Mischievous purple. So far it seems it's pretty rare combo.

So I ordered a 2022 Grabber Blue HP, 700A with Tremec. Why Tremec? Much more durable for road course usage. The car was 700A because at this price point-why not get it loaded. I did not get Recaro seats to keep my wife happy.

Had it been for just me: HP, 600A, cloth recaro, rear seat delete (thank God I didn't get rear seat delete because we had a kid back in February and I take her for rides in the car)

What people forget is in 2021 and first half of 2022 HP cars had a serious markup and orders were cancelled or delayed. Mine was ordered on day 2 of the 2022 order banks opening and was delayed several times and I watched later orders be delivered before mine was in production.

I ended up finding the above spec in FJG for less than sticker (a leftover 2021) up north in the winter and bought all the HP pieces myself and converted the car. Since then I've taken many of the HP parts off and replaced with aftermarket parts.

EDIT: I wasn't initially interested in FJG, but my wife loved it so that made it easier. It's grown on me since, and although super common on Mach 1's, the color is in fact rare on S550's.

I had 17 delay emails and was bracing for the you-are-cancelled-and-can-order-a-2022 email.

Mark ups at the time I ordered were $10-$15,000. Just for kicks, I went to our local dealer and told them I wanted to order one and they said oh you mean a Mach E. I said no, a Mach 1. They said no, it’s called a Mach E and is a new electric vehicle. Knew I had them and pointed out that it was a new Mustang trim and told them that I had an offer from an out-of-state dealer for 2% under invoice, but if they would match it, I would order it on the spot and they did! A couple weeks later, they realized what had happened and the sales manager was furious that he had let that happen. He was super cranky the entire rest of the process and it was like he wanted to blame me for him losing money but at the same time knew he had effed up.

23 Non HP,Manual,700a,heated/cooled seats,painted brakes, upgraded wheels.

wanted it asap as a weekend car and hp’s were delayed. Saved the 4.5k for conversion later à la carte if I decided to track it. 3 years in and I’ve added new wheels and the rear spoiler.

I find it hilarious and sad that some sales people know so little about the cars they are selling.

Bought my 600A used; however, my logic for picking it over the 700A was due to weight and cost savings, track use, and reliability. On the scales the 600A MT, cloth Recardo is 4000lbs with me in it. Cloth will hold up better. IMO, 700A is good for the people that don't track theirs cars and want to preserve it mint for resale value similar to the GT350 owners.

I wasnt on the market when these were being sold butI bought my used one with the same mindset. I am at the point in my life where I like having all the bells and whistles on the cars I get. Manual and HP were non negotiables, had to have them. But I wanted every option you could get, minus the Recaros I was fine with or without them, but I preferred the comfort seats, which is what I got.

FJG wasn't available on any S550's, only was available exclusively on the Mach 1's. So yes it was rare on S550's.

That’s kind of my point. The Mach 1 is an S550, but not all S550’s are Mach 1’s.
