funny how quickly I recognized that track, after not going out for the last couple years.
Get back out there! I am doing the VIP day on 6-20. Not sure which car I am going to take though.

I'll just leave this here. Edit: and one thing I should say is I'm about 6'4" and I fit easily in the 944 with a helmet on. Great ergonomics in that car for taller people. Not only is the S550 large, but you sit really high off the ground.

When you start comparing 4 place cars against 2 place cars; yeah, they are going to look big.
Now when you compare the Mustang against 4, 5,and 6 place sedans the Mustang is tiny. Just saying.

Believe it or not, the 944 has a back seat and it leaves more room than the S550. In Mustangs I have the front seat touching the back seat cushion and would prefer to have more legroom. The 944 offers more driver legroom than I need.

But no one would want to sit behind me in either. It's more of a package tray or a place to throw a bag than legitimate seating. A V8 can fit under the hood in the 944 as well. People swap LS3s in them. To me, the stock engine is the biggest flaw in the 944, but also just that it's an old Euro car and you can't get parts for them.

too big. they need to just bite the bullet and make it a 2 seater already.

If the 944 had to pass the NTSB's crash safety standards of today, how much larger would it be?

I agree the size and mass of today's Mustangs are bloated, but how much of that is Ford trying to engineer a safer (World marketable) vehicle that meets government standards, versus just making a larger vehicle. I feel the US has over regulated many industries.

My kids might have something to say about that - weekend ice cream runs in the Mustang are one of their favorite traditions.

Ideally we'd keep the pony car and get a separate two-seater. A downstream competitor for the Miata or an upstream competitor for the Corvette. Either direction could be fun.

Mustang started to be sold globally with S550, so not only does it have to meet US safety regulations, but also Europe, Australia, Asia… That gets factored in as well, so it’s not entirely our (USA) fault for the S550 & S650.

It doesn't need to be a two-seater, it just needs to get smaller.

I know I'm probably in the minority here and it would cost Ford way too much to make this happen, but if they made a new Mustang model about the size of the GR86 but with a small v8 (maybe 3 to 4 liter), I'd run to the dealership immediately.

I'm not sure. I think the scale of the 944 is similar to a Miata, if not slightly larger and the Miata weighs 600 lbs less. Porsche didn't skimp on the body structure strength of the 944, and the 4 popper weighs about the same as an LS3. It definitely would need thicker A pillars to improve collision safety. And a million air bags would weigh it down.

I felt safer in the 944 than in my 2004 Z06. They weigh similar amounts (Z06 100 lbs more or so), but the 944 body feels like it's carved from a single piece of metal and the Z06 more like a Cracker Jack box.
