I have a VMP Gen3r on the car now but I'm wanting a more lopey idle. I don't want a ghost cam tune for several reasons, but mainly because the performance gain on the top end is worth sacrificing some bottom end for my goals. I'm looking at comp cams stage 2 thumpr (mutha thumprs) but wanted to know if that's a good choice for boosted application and/or if they'd even work, since the max lift is a tad more than stock (0.55in cammed vs 0.51in stock). Also if I go that route, are stock valve springs enough or do they require stronger ones? Let me know your thoughts or experience!

There's no reason they wouldn't work.

You can make about 1800-2000 who with stock cams. Dunno why you wouldn't want a ghost cam tune, all that will happen with these new cams are that the Ti-VCT will make them livable: then you'd have to either lock them out or get a ghost cam tune to make them sound like you want.

Locking them out is not preferable.

I don't think it is possible to get that old school lope from cams in the Gen 3. Ghost cam tune, which I wouldn't do. Both of the videos above sound good, but are not that old school lope.

This is what old school lope sounds like to me.

I personally do like the way the 4.6 sounds better. With the right exhaust a ghost cam can sound good on a gen 3. The problem is the more lopey you make the ghost cam tune the harder it is to get to run half way decent.

This is the idle of our biggest camset, the R3, through turbochargers. This car has the exhaust locked out and the intake VVT active.

This camset pairs best with ported heads and a nonrestrictive billet intake manifold.
